Plastic trim and wax

On my new(er) car (a '07 Pontiac G6), I have black plastic trim around the the bottom of the sides and at the bottom of the rear bumper. I've used Black Wow on it (it does make it look real good). But no matter careful I am, I still get wax on it when I'm doing the rest of the car. Rubbing it with an MF towel does get some off, but not all of it. Because of the Black Wow, I can't get detailers tape (aka painters tape) to stick to it.

What I'm asking is - What can I use to get all the wax off the trim that also won't harm the paint? Also, is there something similar to Black Wow that tape will stick to? If there is, then I can prevent the wax getting on it in the first place.

Or does someone here know of another solution to my problem.

What wax are you using? Alot of the waxes you find on AG won't stain trim. Aside from that, try some APC(all purpose cleaner) with a MF. You will have to reapply the Black Wow after. Also, next time do the trim last.

Mostly I use Poorboy's World products (South Fl, hot sun, no garage - great stuff). It's not stains from wax, it's just old wax that I can't get out of the "pores" of the textured plastic. I'll see if I can get a photo to post in here.

some one else on this forum suggested to use WD-40 to remove the wax from plastic. It works real well for me, took the wax right off

The Pre-Wow cleaner is made for that. I would think it worth a try.

I hadn't heard of using WD-40 for removing wax before. Will it or the Pre-Wow cleaner remove the wax from the finish above it? Or do I need to tape that off before working on the trim. Also, will the Pre-Wow cleaner remove the Black Wow from the trim?

Use an eraser to clean wax from trim like that, white or pink, doesn't matter.

I just spray the wd-40 onto a terry cloth and wipe away the offending wax, if it makes you feel better just tape off the paint right Above just in case.

I have had good results with using 303 on the trim. Not only does remove wax of the trim but the UV protection on the trim doesn't hurt either.

I wasn't all that impressed with this product and it didn't do a great job of removing wax from the window trim on a 2001 Toyota Corolla LE. However, that trim is not a plastic but rather almost a satin surface on top of metal. It may not have worked on that particular surface.

I had a 2006 G6 GTP that had the same pieces stained by wax. I used some Meguiars #39 and a stiff bristled brush. Took it right off.
