Forget about durability...what if you're like me and just need my show car to look good for the weekend? I guess this is a two part question, because at any outdoor show a QD is going to have to be used for dust...so what would the ultimate combo be, just to simply look good for 1-2 days?

Are we talkin' Carnaubas or Sealers or ???

Assume no correction needed and paint is black and soft.

Thanks in advance for the help,
HRJ

  • Meguiar's #7 Show Car Glaze
  • Collinite 845

Wow...two quick votes for Meg #7...haven't used any of that since 1992. :D

Keep 'em comin'...

Short term pop on black with no durability?? The only one thing that comes to mind is Pledge. We used to use this back in the day on auction cars. It will fill everything and make paint so pet its insane. Just don't let it rain on the car.. lol

wouldnt that stain the paint???

Maybe I should clarify...it's not that I want zero durability...it's just that I don't want durability to be a deciding factor. I see a lot of threads about brand x looks really good, but doesn't last more than 2-3 weeks so use brand y...I don't care...but I'm not using Pledge!!! :) Assumption #4: have pride in my car. :)

For you #7 Lovers...which QD to keep the pop alive?

If single stage black paint, #7 is a great place to start. Hides and nourishes. Lot's of carnauba and hybrid options from there.

Sorry...it's black, but it has a polyurethane clear coat (not a single stage paint).

Trerc,

Just so happens I have some of that on the way from the EXPAND sale! Cool.

Thats funny! I thought I was only one that used it back in my auction days!

Must be a northern thing! :D

PS+Griots Speed Shine. Both have a deep wet look only carnauba can deliver.

I like Meguiar's Final Inspection #34.
Meguiar's Quik Detailer A33 is also nice.
Both readily available OTC.

In preparation for a car show.....Have you ever tried a 50/50 mix of Meg's #7/#26? :)

No, but I remember mixing it with a product called "Liquid Ebony", which I don't think is available anymore. It was something guys used to do a final buff on black cars with, typically with a lambs wool pad.

My general thinking on the #7 thing is that I didn't think it was that great with soft polyurethane clear...

Easy way...DoDo juice Red Mist Tropical detail spray or Optimum Instant Detailer & Gloss enhancer...both will make that black really pop and your done in 10 minutes.

In my experience #7 works great adding pop to any finish short term, and while I have topped 26 with 7 I have not tried mixing them, cool idea! :xyxthumbs:

Since the newer polyurethane clear-coat paints claim to be "denser, less porous", you're probably correct that # 7 doesn't work as well on them as they do on SS paint. But I assumed you already had a corrected/protected paint surface and just wanted something to add some temporary 'bling'.:)

By the way, after an arson fire destroyed the facility that housed the #27 Liquid Ebony headquarters, 3M (who else) aquired the rights of, and for, #27 LE. They put it in their line-up as:
3M Perfect-It Foam Polishing Pad Glaze-Dark #05996 or 3M Machine Polish #06064....Mixing one these with #7 will still do the job (looks very good) for temporary use on Black!
