Friend/client of mine wanted his baby buffed and corrected, so I took this beast on. It only has about 30k miles for an almost 20 year old car. Great shape overall. Problem is, it was swirled all to heck. Little did I know that I was going to take on the hardest clear coat I have ever buffed...

Turns out, I had to go over it twice with an M105/IP orange pad combo. Even then, there were still some really deep scratches still remaining. I didn't want to cut too far as I still have to invest in a paint gauge on of these days. Nevertheless, I stopped at about 95% correction.

Thanks to all the forum members that responded to my initial inquiry earlier this week of how to tackle this project.

Total hours invested: 10

Equipment/Process used:

ONR wash
ONR spot clay

Flex 3401
  • Menz IP - orange CCS pad
  • M105 - orange CCS pad
  • 85RD - gray CCS pad
PC
  • EZ Creme glaze (love this stuff) - blue CCS pad
  • Jetseal 109 (again love this stuff) - red CCS pad cured for 8 hours
Supernatural (might be my favorite LSP...so versatile and sooo wet looking)
Wheels dressed with OCW
Tires dressed with Sonax Tire Gel

your lights in the before pics look like a smiley face:)

I think your after shots look amazing! You really don't need the sun to show the amazing detail you did. Great job!

thank you buddy. haha, that's funny about the smiley face. I did not notice that till you said something. And yes, Supernatural = wet candy.

Thank you! I would have loved the sun to show how wet the paint is.... but oh well...

Forgot to add... the best part about doing this job is witnessing owners's reaction when they see their car and seeing them very happy. I wish I could have video'd them when they first saw it... but here is a pic of the owner upon delivery pardon the EVO smartphone pic quality. Their satisfaction makes my job all worthwhile.

nice nice work! man, it looked like that yellow was drippin wet!

what did the owner do? couldnt stop smiling?

Thanks man. Yes the paint turned out well. I didn't know how good yellow looked till in person.

Yeah the owner was very happy, at least I think so. ;) I shared with him some tips for how to keep it swirl free through proper maintenance techniques.

Awesome correction. Yellow can be a really tough color to show a good turn around. You did a great job of it. The finished pictures look awesome. Has a great gloss to it!

Thanks guys.... yeah, I didn't realize GM clear coat was this much a pain. What makes me wonder is........... if it is indeed this HARD, then why are there so MANY swirls? You would think, if it's hard to remove the swirls, it'd be hard to PUT the swirls in there in the first place? I guess for it being almost 20 years old... maybe that's just the toll it took over the years.

Awesome work... that paintwork looks uberwet!

Thanks! That was what I wanted the final look to be. I think a lot of it has to do with EZ creme on a properly prepped paint surface.
