Hurricane Irene Coming for us in the North East

I'm in NH, and it's coming right through here! Call me crazy...but I'm kind of excited about it, ha. Nothing happens around here. Bring it on Irene! Just don't knock the sign off my shop roof...it's pretty new.

Vehicles are gonna get so dirty...my phone is gonna be ringing after this! :dblthumb2:

Didn't your last sign get took out by a Tornado?!?!?!?!?

Hey, and where has Anthony (B&B) been?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

People up here are being a bit ridiculous over the 10 in. of rain we are supposed to get.

I would imagine it would be the same if people down south were bracing for 10 in. of snow like it was the end of the world. We'd all be up here laughing.

Hey man, I don't know where you live, but we have had a lot of rain here lately, so the ground isn't exactly dry. This is part of the National Weather Svc. warning:

* THE ENTIRE TRI-STATE AREA.

* FROM SATURDAY EVENING THROUGH LATE SUNDAY NIGHT

* BASED ON THE FORECAST TRACK OF HURRICANE IRENE...TORRENTIAL
RAINS ARE EXPECTED TO OVERSPREAD THE REGION SATURDAY NIGHT AND
CONTINUE THROUGH SUNDAY. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 5 TO 10 INCHES
WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH SUNDAY
EVENING. THE EXACT TRACK OF IRENE WILL DETERMINE WHERE THE
HEAVIEST AXIS OF RAIN SETS UP...BUT A SIGNIFICANT FLOOD
POTENTIAL EXISTS AREA WIDE.

* THESE RAINFALL AMOUNTS WILL BRING THE POTENTIAL FOR MODERATE
TO MAJOR SMALL STREAM AND RIVER FLOODING ACROSS THE TRI-STATE
RIVER BASINS...AS WELL AS SIGNIFICANT AND WIDESPREAD URBAN AND
POOR DRAINAGE FLOODING.

I mean no disrespect at all, and wish that everyone is safe and sound throughout the storm and the aftermath. And that damages are kept to a minimum.

Good luck all.:dblthumb2:

10" can turn into 10' in a matter of minutes if the drainage system is over its limits (and it will be)

I second that, but just the part where my phone rings off the hook for business lol.

Flash,
YOUR so right. When Floyd hit us in 99 that happen in Bound brook NJ. The entire town was practically underwater. There is more to it, but that sums it up.

Yes, I have a long drawn out flood story too. To some it all up quickly, the water came from the street, into my house in less then 5 minutes

I'm not so sure about that...I'm not sure we've ever had evacuations like this along the Jersey shore, it's supposed to be the worst storm since 1938. I'm inland but because the track is essentially right through NYC, we are still supposed to get 5-10" of rain and wind gusts of 75 MPH. Combine that with the leaves still on the trees, and you're talking about a lot of downed trees and power lines, and a long wait to get them repaired.

The flooding here from Floyd in '99 was really bad, and this is supposed to be worse.

Where I am they say 6-12" of rain. Living in the Hudson Valley and having the Hudson River, I am not sure if I have ever heard of it flooding. I do I know that cities and towns closer to the coast are going to get the worst of it. I was just saying the people in my area are taking it a little too serious considering where they are located compared to others. Stay safe!

Life is not like a video game. You only get 1 shot

Very true. Definitely different from what East coasters are use to.

At least go ahead and put a game plan together. Toss some stuff in your trunk and plan an escape route to higher ground. In a situation like this, it's ok to drive on the sidewalks if need be

Ok i grew up in Poughkeepsie N.Y. and lived through some intense Blizzards, but let me tell you guys since i have moved to south Florida i have gone through a number of Hurricanes. Lessons Learned :
1. have a generator and enough gas to power it for at least a week.
2. Have enough propane to use your Gas grill to cook on after power goes out, at least 2 tanks
3. have at least 1 gallon per person and animal per day, enough for a week
4. have a stocked fridge and freezer
5. fill up car gass tanks
6. have flash lights and candle and batteries
7. have enough extension cords for generator
8. always use generator outside of house at least 10 feet away.
9. BE SAFE !!!!!!
I hope this helps we are praying for you and our friends and family that are also in sight of Irene.

P.S. this is why i am broke in the beginning of June, i end up buying 40 gallons of gas filling up on 15 gallons of Propane and buying 60 gallons of water.

Hey, and where has Anthony (B&B) been?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

If by tornado, you mean a slight breeze..then yes, ha. The other sign I had was just really old. About 10 years to be exact. It wasn't up there very securely as I found out.

Anthony...I don't know. I spoke to him probably a month or so ago in a brief PM. But, other than that I haven't heard from him. I assume he's just busy like everybody else. Didn't he just have a baby too??

Nice, I'll be in solid shape then! I got a 4000 watt generator and plenty of extensions, I have a propane grill with plenty of propane, plenty of water, candles, flashlights (just bought some yesterday at Home Depot, $4.97 for two flashlights WITH batteries).

All I gotta do is stock the fridge and freezer, fill my car and some tanks with gas. Done deal. Now we wait.

Even with all the news, how serious this hurricane will be. Lexus still want detailers to go to work tomorrow. Who the hell is going be buying a car tomorrow? People are going to be occupied taking care of their family.

It has made landfall. Despite being well inland, it has been mostly sporadic light rain and winds but we lost power for almost an hour.

I'm in New Hampshire, right on the ocean. we have had a lot of rain as well. I completely understand why people are so worried.

I shouldn't have used the word ridiculous. Perhaps a bit dramatic. But better safe than sorry. We are all stocked up on batteries and water, as well as canned food.

As I said, I mean no disrespect and wish everyone the best.

I couldn't agree more. About 5 years ago we had the "mothers day floods".We had days of, a bit above average rain fall.

Enough to fill up the drainage systems, saturate the ground, and fill the rivers to their max.

Followed by days of pouring rain that the systems couldn't keep up with. It was the worst this area had ever seen.

I will never forget going to my friends house 15 min away in Exeter, and taking his canoe out and paddling around the neighborhoods.

To add to the anxiety of it all, we are supposed to have an astronomically high high tide when the storm is at its worst here.

Again, good luck everyone.

we made it thru the storm with just a few trees down and limbs in the yard...hope everyone in the path will be safe

:dunno:
my neighbor who's 100% imported portugese, washes his car in the rain. BRILLIANT but there's no pressure washing everything off. maybe you can do that, soap your truck down, leave the tail gate open, and let the rain soak it down! that way when the week comes, all youll have to do is dry and get your detailing on its way! ;-)

I've worked with allot of true Portuguese people over the years and while I've remained close friends with several they are a "thrifty" bunch!

OH, about this "Historical" hurricane as some are calling it. My prediction is I'll see some rain, some wind, some folks running around like a chicken with its head cut off, some buying food stuffs that will last more then a month, some buying 100 gallons of more of gas for everything from generators to escape vehicles preparing to the apocalypse...:dunno:
