Review: CarPro PERL

As always Corey top notch review.....durability is the question and like Mark the 1:1 looks to my taste. Another product to put in the shop to try for myself!

Thanks for your time on this review Corey,as always it was pleasure and informative to read!

Yet another great review.

I was surprised you polished the window seals with a flex, ht pad, and nanopolish. Did you use the edge of the pad to polish? Did you tape off the paint first? The results on the seals look amazing.

Another brilliant review! Avi make more PERL cause after this review your sales are going to take a quantum leap! Meghan stock up!

I have actually found a GREAT use for PERL... I use it on all my polymer framed handguns. It dries completely and is not the LEAST bit slippery and does not interfere with gripping or handling the gun. It makes it look GREAT!

the real question would be whether AG has the updated PERL formula in stock . ? anyone know FOR SURE ?

Thanks so much for the offer but don't go washing a perfectly dressed tire to satisfy my curiosity. I've got a bit of stuff to use up before I'm ready to order more anyhow.

How about I post a pic of my tire with DP gloss gel on it and you create an artificial 50/50? haha

LOL Tim! Well, it would be nice to have a DP vs PERL durability going as well since DP was my favorite tire gel. Thank you though! I won't feel pressured now but will get it up asap.

Thank you Tim!! I did get a big rainstorm today so the durability test has started and I had to drive home with the roads still wet so the tires getting tested already. I'll post some pics as soon as I can.

Thank you Al, Yes, thats exactly what I did. I used the edge of the pad. I applied little dots of polish directly to the surface. I did not tape off the paint. Thank you, I was very excited about the results and so was the owner as it had been a thorn in her side.

Nice innovation!! Cool idea!! :props:

What is Duragloss Nano Polish?

It is a nano scale cleaner/sealant that is in beta stage. At this time we don't know if it will or won't come to market. Looking forward to finding out though. I used poliseal in the same way before with good results as well.

I am not absolutely positive but I thought I was until you asked the question... I was pretty sure it was the upgraded product. I will contact CarPro tommorrow and get back to you before the day is through.

Yes , 100% sure , its on the market for more than 2 months now.
Cee dog just refere this to the first perl we made long time ago.
layering the first version will give that effect as well.
Perl is more hydrophobic now , as you see in 1 of his pics.

Corey, thank you for such an in depth review. I'm sure you have saved people plenty of money and have made AG plenty with your reviews; you have to be one of their favorite members. Were the seals you polished more of a hard plastic or rubber. Also do you know if there was any streaking onto the paint from the exterior trim after the rain? My F150 has dead rubber seals and plenty of exterior trim that needs to be treated but streaking down the sides of the bed looks like crap after a rain storm.

My pleasure, thank you!

I thought they were rubber but after polishing them they felt more plastic than I thought. Honestly I can't be sure but will examine them further.

I haven't seen any streaking on paint yet. I looked at that van again a week later and there was not any streaking on the paint.

Interior photos update:
Well, just went for my morning drive and took some good photos of the interior while I was out in the sun.

PERL 1:1 Tire Update

The day after application the product began being tested for durability on tires.
It rained 3 days this week and on two of those days it rained a lot. On one of those days there would be a rainstorm and then just enough time for it to dry before another storm would come through. So it saw at a couple hours of rain the first day and then was driven with the roads still wet for approximately 20 miles.

All PERL was applied 1:1 See titles for qty. of layers per picture

Vehicle kept outside 24-7
Day 1 – Hot & humid with no rain
Day 2 - Total miles: 40 – Rainy
This is the parking lot it was sitting in at work just before I left after the first of the rainy days.

And after I got home I snapped a couple pictures.

Day 4 - Total miles: 40 – (1) Shower
Day 5 – Hot & humid with no rain
Day 6 – Hot & humid with no rain

Here is the tire after 1 week
TOTAL MILES: 200

Part A:
AMOUNT USED AND PRICE PER TREATMENT (PERL 1:1)
Fred questioned the cost of PERL if they were to layer the tires with 2 or 3 coats so I put together this break down which also includes some additional charts.
Note: Product used varies based on tire sizes and the type of spray nozzle used. It was calculated with 15’s as shown in the durability tests and with the bottle shown below.
Application: Sprayed one time every +/- 45 degrees and then spread very thin with an applicator made from an old tangerine HT pad cut into “pie slices”. Then allowed to dry before application of next layer.
Also based on the amount of product I show used for tires you can understand doing an interior is going to take very little product. Interiors only get one layer 1:5 (spray on and wipe off) so I would say if purchasing the 1/2 liter it costs between $0.05 and $0.20.

Part B:
HYDROPHOBIC
Here’s a quick video that shows the product is still hydrophobic after 1 week. While PERL certainly took a hit from the rainstorms etc it is still there. The zoomed in video is on the single layer. I would have liked to zoom on the multiple layers in the video but they were at ground level and for these purposes this will do. You can see images of the different layers after 1 week up close in the previous update.

Part C:

OLD TIRE TEST (PERL vs. DP):
Tim was curious how PERL looked next to DP. I wanted to do a PERL vs. DP durability test for my own information as well so here we go. First let me apologize to you Tim because I did this test on one of the older tires on the green SL. If only I had replaced 2 tires when the Tires Plus guy told me to! I would have done the test on the Blue SL but I had already placed one layer of PERL over all of its tires before I realized how bad the tires were on green.
So, we have a good depiction of how these two dressing look on extremely aged and abused tires but not much in the way of how they will look on your tires.

avi, how do I tell if I have the new formula or old ? The bottle AG just sent me does not have the upgraded version sticker on it. is this the old formula ?

Holy cow Corey, that stuff looks like it works very well.

I'm curious as well how CarPro PERL compares to Ultima Tire & Trim Guard. There are just so many great products out there looking to gain market share and my problem is I want to test them ALL!! :props:

Tremendous review Corey!
Thank you for all the hard work, documentation, and videos!! :props:

Mike, I read in another post Avi said everything AG has been getting for awhile now is the new version. He said in that post it has been for awhile.

Thank you Bobby!! Im the MAN

Stay tuned, its been raining a lot this week and the tires are still looking good as is my neighbors trim. The gloss is tamed by all the rainstorms but the tires are still very nice and black and beading well. Will update this weekend with pictures.

Part F: - Two Week Update: Various Layers of PERL vs. Ultima T&TG

Multiple rains have taken a toll on PERL on the tires but from 10 feet away they still look ok (except for the tape lines of course)

Part K: - 3 1/2 Week Update: PERL vs. Ultima T&TG
After 3 weeks and lots of rain PERL has faded a great deal. I would say its time for a good cleaning and new application. Construction in the parking lot at work has caused these tires to go through 2” deep water a couple times on the way out.

Part L: - 2 1/2 Week Update: PERL vs. Detailers Pride (Old Tire)
Its neck and neck but in this lighting PERL is winning the race. (PERL on the left and DP on the right) Construction in the parking lot at work has caused these tires to go through 2” deep water a couple times on the way out.

Thanks for adding the DP comparison Corey!

I think I could distinguish btw them right after application if it were a blind test (PERL is initially a bit darker) but perhaps not after 1 week.

Those are probably the nicest looking old tires I've ever seen!

Corey,

It has been a few weeks. Which do you like better, UTTG+ or PERL?
