Doorjams?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

In almost every service menu I've seen door jams are listed with the gas cap, trunk jam areas therefore I would say its generally accepted as part of an exterior detail. But to the point of others if you clean the interior why step across a dirty door jam to get into the nice clean interior.

general rule of thumb : exterior
general rule of good customer service: if its dirty clean it

I say interior. Even though it is paint, it is inside the auto when doors are shut.

My idea of exterior is without opening the doors.

Even though a clean exterior with dirty door jambs is a major pet peeve.

Maybe up charge 10 for door jambs upon making the sale if they are interested?

I agree. Unless I have to compound and I know there will be tons of polishing dust in the jambs. In that case I will wipe them out, but not go all out clean. To me they are part of the interior.

Clearly, the door jams should fall under interior. What worse first impression on an interior detail, then to have the owner open the doors and see that mess first thing

On the other hand. The exterior has a valid point as well. Whatcha gonna do, leave polish dust behind? That would be a terrible first impression as well

So my vote goes to the ******** :)

Hi Flash Gordon: Actually, I always do the door jambs as part of washing the outside of my cars. I have to admit, I don't do the inside nearly as much as the outside. Never have liked doing the inside.

If a car stays mantained (weekly washings), its pretty easy to get away with just wiping the jams after washing

The picture thats burning a hole through my mind, is like a kid hauling suburban that travels dusty roads and hasn't been cleaned in 6 months or more

PS Looks like interiors are gaining speed in this scientific research study

I do it for either interior, or exterior. But, if the customer is pressing me for time...or has a discount, I'll skip it for both services. Unless they get an "in and out" service. But for my regulars...I always do it either way.

It's just one of those things where I'd rather not have the customer ask, and have to explain why I didn't do it. Although, I will say...that I just wipe them down for interior, or exterior only. I don't take the time to be detailed. Just a quick wipe down.

It's just like windows. Do you do windows in and out for an interior, or exterior only service? I do inside windows for an interior, and I do both in and out for an exterior service. I just think if I do an exterior and don't do inside windows...it looks crappy, and affects the look. But when I do an interior...screw the outside cause I didn't even wash it, ha.

I normally proceed with the door jambs when finishing off the interior

Or when pronounced as "A" as in neighbor and weigh. Now can someone tell me when to use effect and affect?

:poke:

I wipe them down after a wash- the water gets in there anyways.

I haven't given them much more attention than that, honestly. Keep them wiped down, and they never get caked with crud!

I'll vote for BOTH. Undoubtedly, the customer will notice that you didn't do it, no matter which detail you were asked to do. They don't want to hear you explain why you didn't do it. They'll just see that it's dirty and think less of you.

As a side note; I would just wipe the largest areas of the jams. Save the hinges (cleaned with a brush, degreaser, hose) for a FULL detail.

Door jams are almost a grey area and whether interior or exterior. I would do them anyway because if the door's open they'll be visible and if not clean will make the whole job look poor.

I agree!

That's exactly what I do. I do them no matter what. But, to what extent is really the question for me. If I'm doing an interior, I just wipe around the general jamb. If it's an exterior...same thing.

For a full detail...I clean them more thoroughly. If it's just in or out...clean them just enough so the customer doesn't gasp when they open the door, ha.

Exterior!

As soon as I finish washing a car I go for it. It Always gets wet in that area making it exterior...

Lets see, your customer/friend just finished spending 2 hours cleaning the interior of the car. You wash the car and don't do the door jams. Now its wet, he/she gets in the car to find out that the shoe just got wet from the door jams. Now the recently cleaned interior is now dirty.

I always wax my doorjams , underneath trunk lid, underneath hood, and inside gas door. It makes cleaning them that much easier next time. Plus I have alot of time on my hands. Ha!

:bump:

Thanks VT...Don't know how I originally missed this.

It is...by its very nature...quite entertaining!! Thanks Flash. :props:

That being said:
One thing I really appreciate about Flash is that he represents/is the epitome of the: Warrior-attitude.
This guarantees his advantage...of myself not ever being very easily disappointed.

Hi, Bob :dblthumb2:

I'm always going back into his thread history.
Kinda makes one think...whatever the issue.

A lot of cats not posting anymore. Kris, LSUFAN (I think he moved to TN), Ben, Alko (just getting back), and others. Kinda what Mike calls "the ebb and flow".

Flash disappears, and comes back often. This time he seems more grounded.

I was also fond of this thread while researching my web page. Too bad it didn't get more replies.

I threw away 500 colored flyers because of that thread.
