Do You Guys Wear Masks?

Funny you bring this up. I was just thinking the next time I'm in Lowes or HD to pick up some masks. Mainly for use when sanding headlights. When I see the dust I know I'm breathing some of that in, no matter how much I try not to, and I think "this can't be good for me".

Wetsand?

I've used glasses when working on the cars undercarriage, worn headphones when using machine polishing, and always use nitrile gloves when cleaning a engine bay/wheels.

I guess I'll look into a few respirators for when I'm polishing/using harsh chemicals.

Usually when I use wheel brightner or any strong wheel cleaner I hold my breath spray on walk away and come back with a new breath to work the wheel and rinse.

For you guys that are not really up on respirators, the basic distinction is between something like the N95's linked, which protect against dusts and mists, and a "real" respirator which has charcoal in it to absorb organic vapors (solvents, etc.)

I typically wear ear protection when working for long periods with my da. And I've actually been thinking about picking up a mask for when I use certain chemicals (degreasers, wheel brightener, wheel acid, etc). Those dust masks are ok but don't do a good job when dealing with spray from chemicals.

I triple dog dare everyone to go out and get protective gear!!

I triple dog dare everyone!

Oh.....No......You......Didn't just triple dog dare me

Triple Dog Dare is the ultimate in getting me to do something

I don't take Triple Dog Dares lightly :)

HAHAHAHA! Whats up Flash! How are you?

Yeah man...I'm not ready for this cold ish. Today is 10 degrees cooler than yesterday. At the least, I won't be sweating my arse off when I winterize my car this weekend.

87* Monday, 52* Today :(

ooooo damn!!! WTF?! I thought you were in Memphis. Ya'll having that type of weather?!

LMAO Flash!!! yeah man thats nuts.

What kind of mask should I get for wheel brightener? Also something that will filter XMT Pad Cleaner. I inhaled some of that stuff somehow when spraying a pad and it was nasty.

As for eye protection. Are plastic sunglass style protetion fine? Like you wear when working on a car? Or do they need to be sealed like swim goggle?

Ive been wanting to pick up something for these but I dont know what to get.

I would recommend reading the MSDS for it. From what I remember WB is some of the nastier stuff you can use.

Its a little bit colder here today then I wish it was is my only complaint. Other then that, everythings groovy :)

Feeling better Flash? I remember you were under the weather for a bit.

I am glad you brought this thread up Alex. I just ordered a mask like two weeks ago because I had a bad overspray of wheel acid from some random wind. I have a respirator with replaceable filters and I wear my Oakley sunglasses but I wanted more face protection.

I decided to get a new respirator with a built in face shield like this.

3M™ Full Facepiece Respirator

People might think I look funny but I really don't want any long term effects in the long run. Again I got this because I deal with wheels acids. They also come in handy with stinky cars! :xyxthumbs:

I urge everyone to read this article from Autopia it shows all of the dangers with the tools and chemicals we use. I learned about some in my chemistry class as well since our class final was to find a product that we use and test out the compositions. That aluminum oxide can be dangerous.
