My brother's 99 black Honda accord has never been maintained.
I got a question. If I bought two of the same car. One maintained and other one car wash, never waxed.
Does clear coat failure have to do with maintaining the car or the clear just goes bad?
I dont believe negligence is the cause of clearcoat failure. Sure it might play a small role such as bird bombs/water spots and such etching into paint but no amount of LSP will prevent clearcoat failure. LSPs protect the paint from environmental damage such as the above by providing a slick finish, temporarily filling in microscopic valleys in the paint to decrease surface tension, but does nothing against UV degradation. No matter how much UV blockers there might be in the product over time, matter of hours, they start to drasticly degrade (think about sun block/screen). Coupled with the fact that some manufacturers used different/lower quality/or have insufficient film build. Some car companys are just more prone to clear coat failures which is easily seen if you look for it. With that being said I've notice many late 90s-early 00 Honda were prone to clear coat failure.
