really great job garry! youre one of the best and i try to catch all your vids and learn alot. i keep thinking about using optiguard instead of my ultima sealant but the one thing that scares me is if i have to touch up a panel for some reason ill have to recut the whole panel to do the touch up. the reason i want to try opti is that it will resist micro marring better than ultima according to old tiger. do you agree with these last 2 statements?

Bill and Dan (The owners of Dr.Colorchip) both told me that 10-15 minutes is sufficient cure time before applying a coating.

Yes, they recommended highly that I do all of my polishing and an ISO wipe down before applying the paint.

Do you happen to know how large of an area the road rash kit will repair? I know the website says over 2 dozen chips, but I'm talking about an entire hood. The paint's in good shape and all of the chips are small--like pin-size small--but after almost 120k highway miles, the roads are taking their toll. I actually thought at one point that I passed someone spraying down white paint somewhere, it's that kind of "spray".

Now that you've seen that color you can imagine how all of these chips must look.

It is no huge problem to remove Opti-guard from an area. I believe it can be removed with Poli-seal if you need to. It most definately can br removed by hand. As far as a whole panel needing to be stripped before you can reapply, I dont think so. I think you are over thinking this. If you want to do less maintenance I would highly recommend Opti-Coat/Guard. If you enjoy detailing your vehicle regularly I would stay away from any coating.

Yes, I do think Opti-Guard will resist micro-marring better than UPGP, but only because it cures solid and thicker.

The road rash kit is a TON of paint. Actually its only 1 oz, but thats alot of paint when it comes to chips. You can repair FAR more than 24 chips with an oz of paint.

Get the road rash kit and use it. If its not enough, order more.

Its good stuff and the paint matches everytime. Well, it has been dead on for all of the 12 times I have used it. :buffing:

As Garry alludes, your car would probably need a body shop if Dr Colorchip was insufficient. On scattered rash vs individual chips using the t-shirt method to cover large areas works well.

I agree, if Dr.colorchip can't fix it you will need a repaint.

Haven't tried it yet, I'm just curious. A lot of the videos and samples I see are small areas, even for the road rash repairs. My chips aren't any different--small, shallow, etc.--it's just that it covers a much larger area. We'll see this spring.

Obviously I haven seen your damage, but the Dr. Colorchip system really does a good job and is worth a shot. Can you post a pic?

Hey all I know this is a few months old .. lol so if u see this.. im curious if i can use the dr colorchip before sealing this weekend i planed on polishing the swirls out of my car then using DR chip then sealing but the instructions say 7 days before wax.. Now i see that u used a coating and i know that thicker and harder then a seal so im sure it would be ok do u guys agree??
