Review Time!!!!

Well guys and gals, this will be my first official review, so go easy on me. I didn’t think I’d write a review anytime soon, but I was so impressed with this product that I had to put something together. So without further adieu, let’s get this show on the road!!

So…the product for today’s review is….*drum roll*

Griot’s Garage Paint Prep

autogeek_2183_6813537.jpg

Griot's Garage Paint Prep, Griots Paint Cleaner, Prewax cleaner

What Does This Stuff Do??? (Taken from AG):
Use Griot's Garage Paint Prep to remove old wax and polysilicones for a squeaky clean start before you polish and wax. This pre-wax cleaner spray preps your vehicle for the best possible finish by promoting better bonding of waxes and a more even shine from polishes. Griot's Garage Paint Prep is the pre-wax cleaner you spray on!

Description:
Griot’s Garage Paint Prep comes in a 35 oz clear bottle. It has no fruity delicious scent, rather a faint metal/chemical scent-but not too bad. Just be aware of wind gusts when spraying this product, or if you really want to protect yourself, wear a mask. It does NOT come with a sprayer, however I highly recommend getting the recommended one.
Griot's Garage Finest Sprayer, Griots Garage Spray Nozzle, Trigger Spray
The sprayer is of high quality, durable plastic that has a great feel in the grip and it does not leak product while using spraying, like other low quality sprayers do.

Griot’s Garage Paint Prep is a non-abrasive chemical that will not harm your paint and will not irritate your skin (as far as I know), however I do recommend wearing nitrilite gloves just as a precaution when working with any detailing products.

Why Should I Use This Stuff???
After washing with a PH balanced auto shampoo, I clayed the vehicle to remove any bonded contaminants, as well as my previous LSP-or Last Step Product from my previous detail. I then washed the car with 2oz of Dawn liquid detergent mixed with 1oz of Meguiar’s Gold Class Shampoo. So….my LSP should have been stripped right?!?!?! *Buzzer sound* WRONG!!!!!

As you can see, the high quality wax I used still remained on most of the vehicle…”oh no…oh no…what do I do?!?!”

*queue Super Hero Music*

Application/Process:
While the car was still wet from when I washed it the second time, I sprayed the entire vehicle with the Paint Prep. I still had a little less than half the bottle left over. I filled a bucket with fresh clean water and place a chenille microfiber wash mitt into the bucket. WITHOUT wringing the wash mitt out of excess water, I started from the top of the vehicle and worked my way down…”massaging” the product into the paint. After I covered the entire vehicle (minus the windows), I rinsed the product off with my pressure washer. You can clearly see there is no more leftover LSP.
Results

As you can see, the paint is now ready to be corrected. The Griot Garage Paint Prep strips the paint of any leftover products that washing and claying could not remove.

Final Thoughts
I HIGHLY recommend this product. I’m somewhat still a noob/beginner to detailing, but I feel that this product is a must have in your detailing arsenal. As I am still learning the detailing ropes, I’ve come across a lot of comments where people say “it’s all in the prep work.” I’ve come to appreciate this statement….it truly is all in the prep work.

Very nice! Really looking forward to using this product.

So just to confirm your process:

1. Wash
2. Spray Paint Prep onto wet paint, top-to-bottom
3. Take a fresh chenille mit with fresh water, and "work" the product into the paint
4. Pressure wash for good measure
5. Dry

Is this correct?

Awesome review! Thanks for sharing your findings with us.

Great review! Thank you very much for taking the time to put it together.

X2! Very nice write up!
Thank you sir! It got real slow here at work so I thought I’d complete this write-up I started last week.

Thanks! Yes…the process you stated are the steps I took after I clayed the car. It worked like a charm! Give each panel alittle extra attention with the pressure washer to ensure you are rinsing the product completely off.

Nice work and thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys…I appreciate it. I’m sure I’ll do more reviews with better formatting and stuff.

Super write up! :dblthumb2:

I enjoy the humor (drum rolls, super hero music...).

I got this product when it was on BOGO a couple of months ago and have not used it yet. This review confirms what I was thinking that it would be a good product and will do what it says it will (which is true for the entire line of Griots products).

Nice review, thanks.

:iagree:, Great product. I buy it by the gallon.

What does it smell like?

Solventy? Or maybe like an orange based degreaser?

Alex,

Great review and thank you for taking the time to put it all together including the nice photos! :dblthumb2:

It's easy to see why it's important to use the right product for the job....:props:

Nice review Alex! Very cool and informative. Man one thing I regret about this product is that I didn't buy it when it was on BOGO!!!

This is going on my next order. Was there sealant on the paint as well or just Wax?

Great writeup. Quick question. You used 1/2 a bottle for one prep? Is this normal that a bottle would only do a couple of cars? Just curious about the cost factor.

:-D I'm glad you enjoyed the review. I thought I would add a little bit of humor to it. Next time I may add sound effects.

Yeah I took advantage of the BOGO a few months ago and now I finally got a chance to use them. Nick recommended it to me prior to it going on BOGO so when I saw it, I had to jump on it. The product works EXACTLY as advertised.

Nice review, thanks.

, Great product. I buy it by the gallon.

Thanks!!! I definitely saved the sprayer bottles as I plan on getting this by the gallon as well.

uuummm....I would say it has a mild scent...almost like a foaming glass cleaner. It can hit you the wrong way if a strong wind gust blows by and blows it back in your direction. I definitely recommend extending your arm out to spray to avoid breathing it in. The scent does not linger though...it quickly dissipates.

Thank you sir! I appreciate it. Yes definitely....and there is so much that I didn't know until I found AG. Man...the things that I learn from this forum on a daily basis. I'm anxious to see the car with the FG and 2 layers of Collinite 915.

Great review for a first time!!!! More guts than me lol.

LOL!!! Thanks man! I appreciate it.

The pictures tell the story. Nice review!

Why thank you sir...I appreciate it.

Yeah man...like I said earlier...I HAD to jump on it. I knew I was eventually going to strip the wax and man I'm glad I got it. That Swissvax is some durable stuff...I was expecting to strip the wax from claying and washing in Dawn.

Yes I had sealant on it as well...I used the Sonus SFX 2-4...4 is the sealant with the power boost or whatever it is.

I had alittle less than half a bottle. I think you can really stretch it out to where a 35oz bottle can last up to two cars. If you spray it sparingly and then use the wash mitt and water to spread the product, you can definitely stretch it out.

If you like this product buy the turtle wax clay kit with the liquid claybar and regular claybar. You'll thank me later. Same price as the griots but works much better. Dont let the name fool you about being a liquid claybar and dont automatically assume because its turtle wax its garbage. Not only does it strip lsp's like no other it has the added benefits of being a strong chemical and mechanical paint cleaner. I not only use it for striping LSP, but also as a pre prep for removing paint oxidation. Plus it comes with a decent clay bar as a bonus and lasts for more than two cars. I easily get over 6-7 cars with one bottle.

Thanks for the review but also wondering if using 1/2 the bottle is correct? I would think spritzing would be a lot less since I can use the pre-wax cleaner and usually get at least 4 applications.
