i just finished going over the carrerra with menz. its the first time i used it. i had one hell of a time getting the stuff off the car though. i worked it and worked it til i was blue in the face and still couldnt get it to "dry". it was a royal pain to get it all off. i dont know if it was because of the cool damp nights we have here or if i used too much product or a combination. any ideas ?
anyway, once i got it all off, i loved how it shined. now, ive got to put the upp on. before i do that, i'm thinking of going over the car with some p21s cleaner. should i was it ? the concern i have is did i really get all of the menz off. i didnt want to seal the paint and have some kind of residue or something hanging on and then i mess something up by putting the upp over it.
the other question i have is, the menz got all into my felt gaskets. how can i clean that stuff out ?
any advice would be appreciated

What Menzerna product were you using? Having just a bit more information would help allot....:props:

Ouch... felt or fuzzy gaskets are the worst design ever as far as car detailing goes... once you cream over the felt of fuzzy gaskets it's very difficult to remove any polish or wax residue without harming the felt of fuzz...

Glad I'm not you...

Here's a tip...

Guide to taping off a car

Where you see the blue tape is a fuzzy gasket... I ALWAYS tape these off so I don't have to clean them later...

No easy way... a couple of hard ways... including washing with soap and a soft brush, be careful not to scratch the paint or tear up the material...

my bad guys. after cleaning and claying, i went over it with super intensive and then the super. i was wondering if i should go over it with the p21s paint cleanser or wash to get residuals off before i go over it with the wolfgang deep glosspaint sealant and finally some fuzion.

I would wash and take the opportunity to see about those fuzzy gaskets...

Those are polishes(Super intensive and the superassuming u mean super finish) and you want to wipe them off when they are wet. If they dry up on you, removal will be difficult.

I'm glad I asked because a normal assumption would be to assume you were talking about a wax or sealant because many of these are supposed to dry before removing.

Normally you don't let compound and polishes dry let alone work at trying to get them to dry. :)

Your in a little luck in that I think those products are water soluabe and you should be able to use some car soap and wash/dissolve most of it off.

The above is assuming I'm reading everything correctly...

:)

Both products you mention above are polishes used to remove defects in the finish.

Most if not all Menzerna compounds and polishes are water soluble so most of the mess will clean up with soap and warm water. A pressure washer could also prove beneficial in removing the dried product.

Once the polish has been removed inspect the finish to see if additional damage might have occurred trying to remove the dried polish. If this is the case try polishing each panel using a dual action polisher and appropriate pad.

Do you have a polisher or are you thinking about getting one? I hope the answer is yes in order to produce consistent results in a reasonable amount of time.

I prefer to put my own package together.

i may have led yall a little astray. i thought that the polish was suppose to haze over before it was wiped off. thats what concerned me. it all got wiped off without any dried product on the car.
so, my next step would be a wash before the sealant ? or the p21s and a wash and then the sealant or just go straight to the sealant or ???

Compounds and polishes should be removed as soon as you're satisfied with the results. That said it does not have to be approached as an emergency. Simply wash the area in order to completely remove the product.

After paint correction or polishing thoroughly wash the surface with something like Griot's Paint-Prep, CarPro Eraser, or Klean Strip Prep-All with make it ready for the next step...

By following the basics the finish on your car or truck will not only glow, it'll have some great long term protection.

  1. Wash
  2. Clay
  3. Polish
  4. Prep
  5. Seal
  6. Wax

is the p21s an acceptable prep or will it conflict with the wg paint sealant ?

sounds like you really want to use the p21s so just use it

it won't hurt anything but it won't make your felt gaskets look any better either

Good to hear... only drying waxes need to dry, most other paint care products are,

Applied, worked and then removed...

You don't have to wash or chemically strip that paint, that's an option but not always mandatory, depends upon the products and the manufactures recommendations. Check out this article,

Miscible and Immiscible - Wax and Paint Sealant Bonding

IF the P21S is the cleansing lotion then you could apply and remove this to ensure a completely cleaned off finish from the other steps... I wouldn't but you could if you wanted to.

IF the P21S is the wax you're talking about, then it's not a prep product, it's a sealing and protecting product.

Sometimes add a few extra words to clarify which products. :xyxthumbs:

If you're referring to the P21S Gloss Enhancing Paintwork Cleanser it is if you're referring to the P21S Concours Carnauba Wax then no it wouldn't be a good choice for a prep product before applying a paint sealant.

:)

Simply stated:

1)wash the polish residue off and inspect the paint for marring(from the wash/removal) and your gaskets to see if they came clean.

2) Surface prep for sealing, can be as simple as IPA wipe down(search for an article Mike wrote on the proper dilution) or a commercial available prep solvent like Bobby G mentioned

3) Seal, follow instructions on the sealant or wax of choice

4) Enjoy

great post Mike. Spoken like a true teacher...

I guess I just assumed it was the p21s cleansing lotion b/c anything else wouldn't make sense.

guys, im really sorry for my half-assed posts. i know i confused a lot of people. shoot, i even confused myself. the p21s i was talking about is the P21S Gloss Enhancing Paintwork Cleanser. the only reason i mentioned it was because thats what i had in the cabinet.
on a side note, the menz polishes worked out fantastic. i think i figured out that the car has soft paint too because it didnt take a lot of work to get out the fine scratches
i really appreciate you guys' patience with me on this thread.
