1957 Chevrolet Bel Air - Remove Swirls - Modeled by Kristin

Thanks Mike and Corey. On a side note, from the smell it puts out I guess Iron-X would be a outside use only product ?

So Iron X wouldn't be such a great idea for antique cars with single stage paint? Would it be OK if you choose to use the Iron X on the single staged paint or would it harm the paint?

Yes plus you need to rinse the car after use. IF you can rinse a car in your garage or shop than that's cool otherwise most people will want to use this in their driveway.

As I mentioned previously, because you have to rinse this product off with water, it's my personal preference not to introduce water to antique cars because the water will get into all the nooks and crannies where you cannot reach to dry it and it can cause or accelerate rust problems.

One of the worst problems associated with antique cars is rust. It's hard to deal with and expensive and the idea I'm trying to share with you is that you don't do things that would help rust to form, you do things that help to keep the car dry. Thus washing an antique car with water to flush the IronX off the paint is something I wouldn't do because to do this means having to get the car wet with water.

Make sense?

Would it be OK if you choose to use the Iron X on the single staged paint or would it harm the paint?

I don't know the official company recommendation for this but I'm sure Avi could let us know if someone will PM him...

Most all new cars have basecoat/clearcoat paint systems so it's really not an issue they have to contend with.

:)

Totally awesome, Mike. I worked on a 55 Chevy a couple months ago and it also looked pretty good until you really inspected it. It is funny how sometimes a gorgeous car can distract your attention from the quality of the paint sometimes. Awesome cars are awesome cars no matter how rough the paint is sometimes. :) Great work as always!!

According to CarPro Iron X is safe on single stage paint as well as clear coats. As long as there are no super deep scratches that cut all the way through it the paint you are fine.

Iron X is very safe on paint. It only reacts with Iron particles. :dblthumb2:

Thanks guys, :dblthumb2:

Yeah, I meant if the scratch is completely through the paint that is the only way the iron x can react with something you don't want it to react with since it only attacks ferrous metals (iron). Otherwise it simply dissolves and removes all the unwanted iron particles like brake dust, rail dust, etc from the paint.

As you can imagine I don't see many single stage paints so I haven't used Iron X on ss (full disclosure). Just passing on what I know CarPro has said publicly on the forums before.

If there was iron on that car then it would definitely help with the clay time. Car is clayed a good bit faster and the clay comes out less contaminated after Iron X. Also the iron is dissolved rather than shaved off the surface.

Having said that I might guess Mike didn't want to use anything in his studio that is better off being used outside or with good ventilation.

So Iron X wouldn't be such a great idea for antique cars with single stage paint? Would it be OK if you choose to use the Iron X on the single staged paint or would it harm the paint?

See above...

It is recomended by CarPro that you have good ventilation or do it outside. I would say you want to do it outside. You want really good ventilation if you do it inside.

Mike, these Thursday smackdowns are becoming one of my favorite parts of the forum and something I look forward to!! Im the MAN Im the MAN

The whole concept is great and between yourself, Adam, and other friends of mine on occasion, I get to see some excellent talent and great characters in action. Great work by the swirl girls as well.

Nice job on this one Kristin :dblthumb2:

Thanks Corey, It's good to hear some feedback... It's a lot of fun to work with a group of people as a team to tackle these types of projects in a short amount of time and then share the results on the forum.

I've never used any models in any of my work until coming to Autogeek and while it's been a lot of fun I'll be putting more focus on the education side in the future and a tick less attention to the models. At this time the models are not going away but if I judge myself I would have to say I've gotten a little off track of my original idea and that was just for a few shots, 1, 2, 3, maybe 4 of a pretty girl to go with a cool car.

It's important to me to maintain a family friendly forum and I admit that I've strayed off that commitment from simply getting caught-up in the fun of the project but it's time to get back to my roots and that's a more serious side.

Speaking of Adam, I just posted the last of the "process" pictures to page one of this thread and you can see the results from Adam's work polishing all the chrome and stainless steel.

Thank you Adam!

Beautiful turnaround. I wish I could assemble a crew like that the next time I polish my car. And welcome to AG Kristin.

Finished

Just to note, all of the pictures have now been processed and added to the thread, there's about 100 pictures on the first page of this thread alone.

Thank you to everyone that helped with the project. Thank you to everyone that welcomed Kristin.

Enjoy!
