Need a little guidance...the photo below is the trunk of the M3...Nothing done to it other than Cilajet applied by the dealership....however you can see all the swirls.

Here is the hood done today using Clay, PC with M105 and M205 then WG Polish enhancer than Megs Carnuba. I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I still cannot get the swirls out. I used LC Yellow with the M105 and LC orange with the 205. LC White with the WG then LC blue with the Carnuba.

I am pretty sure it is my technique but could it be the product or the Cilajet preventing a good cleaning?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm working on a white m3 as well and my trunk has a lot of swirls. Never tried machine polishing before, let alone an extensive detail.

For my first ever experience yesterday using GG 6" DA with Megs Microfiber system, and practicing on the trunk, I haven't been able to remove all the swirls but I did see some improvements. I only used the cutting pad with the D300 just for testing. I will continue practicing on the trunk, and maybe the hood because it really felt weird doing it the first time and I need to improve my technique and method before venturing the other panels of my car (vertical panels).

I should have taken pics but I only have an iphone camera and it was overcast yesterday.

Non-black BMW paint can be rather hard. Ensure your pad is spinning (not just oscillating) when you want cut. (I put a small piece of masking tape on on my BP and apply enough pressure so that I get at least 1 RPM rotation.) You want slow arm speed. I use a cross-hatch pattern of about 2'x2' 3 passes, lightly mist and 3 more then check if I got the correction I was looking for when I use SMAT polishes. You may need MF or even Surbuf pads also. With foam cutting pads, you should probably stick with 5.5" pads or smaller with a PC.

Research the "Kevin Brown Method" once you get the gist of proper pad priming, pressure and arm speed M105 with a DA will be a great combo to work with

Thank you for the inputs...I did notice later today that my pads were not spinning...just oscillating...Smaller pads? Will order some tonight...still have credit at AG to spend!!`

Mark the backing plate with a black Sharpie. Now you can see if the pad is spinning or not.

Thank you for tip...the PC is new to me...been using a cyclo. Definitely more power...

Touche' my good man!! And I will save the pads for the plane!!

try mez super intensive polish and then mez micro polish. i got much better results than megs 205/105. finally top with ultima sealant and itll blow your mind. hope this helps.

Thanks Budinsc....will give it a try...the car's paint is horrible and almost embarrassing to drive!!

Get the thinner pads (7/8"). Thicker pad pad absorb energy. Less power for correction. Keep your pads clean if they get gunked up they won't spin or correct.

Don't forget you will need a 5" back plate
