The main reason has been mentioned above.
Using a rotary back plate will also allow for some heat dissipation because the adapter itself will absorb some heat that is generated by the DA. DA can get quite hot and this heat travels down into the back plate and pads. Sometimes this causes delamination of the velcro or collapse of the foam pad center. (usually the heat is caused user error for working with dirty pad or too large of an area)
Rotary back plates have much larger threads and therefore much stronger. The extra strength is needed to safely spin a 8,9, and even 10 inch wool wad.
So you will see plenty of rotary back plate to DA adapters, but not the other way around. The 5/16" x 24 DA threads would not be safe on rotary.
If you decide to use the adapter, make sure that your BP and adapters
are snug.
Do the quick connect systems work as stable, or as reliable?
I've been using the Edge 2000 quick disconnect system on both rotary and DA for a few years and they work well with both types of polishers. I assume that's what you're asking about.Do the quick connect systems work as stable, or as reliable?
which do you think will be less tippy on a gg6?
2.75 in rotary bp and DA adapter
or
3.5 in LC flexible bp?
I have the 3" Griot's on my Christmas list and if I don't get I will just buy it.
