Beater rolled with Rustoleum questions

I agree, he is a fantastic teacher. What church do you attend there in Memphis?

I'll have to check those links out. Thank you.

Pine Crest Baptist Church is where I pastor.

Hopefully some photos are on the way........never done it without photobucket so....

I had completely forgotten about it until I read this thread. I have a friend that painted his VW Bug with some bright yellow house paint and a roller and a foam sponge for the tight areas. He sanded it down and cleared it with spray cans. All of this was performed in his driveway since he didn't have a garage.
He wet down the drive and surrounding areas and went at it. I was suprised how well it turned out. He drove it for a few months and sold the card. got alot more out of it if he hadn't painted it and most people were none the wiser.
Good luck on your project. Hope it turns out well.

My apologies for the sideways photos. Feel free to just tilt your head as you view...

Top to bottom is peeled paint on hood, stripped and ready for first coat, one coat done, and final coat applied.

Thanks Sinbad. I have thought about selling this truck many times, but I can't much for it, and it is very handy. The peeling paint began to rust on the cab and it was getting bad...If I can get it to look good from 10 feet I'll be happy.

Of course everyone is chiming in with sand it all the way down, and Mike has commented, so I feel inclined to do a better job now! She ain't gonna be perfect, but she will be better protected, and won't rust. Looks like I will be over budget, by about $30.

$130 total is not too bad for a rookie.

haha I have seen these "$50 paint jobs" using rustoleum. I'll be honest, they can look very good if you take the time. There is a HUGE thread on this on honda-tech.com. I can find it if anyone wants. i mean for $100 or even $300, it's not a bad way to go. It won't be a show car, but like you said, it'll look good from 10 ft away and be better protected. Plus the paint is thick enough that it can fill in pretty small dents and other bodywork imperfections.

Sorry, I had to fix this for you so we can see:

Thank you!

I did a spot test yesterday on the hood and it is getting there. Not sure how far into it I want to go. As the one poster stated, it will not be show car like, but that is not my goal, nor would I ever think I could spend $100 and get the best results ever.

The truck is 20 years old, my father in law bought it new, it runs great, and I want it to last.

Thanks for all the help and replies. I will try to post some of the pics I took last night.

Man, what a heap! You should probably sell that to one of your co-workers. :xyxthumbs:

gamatt is the brother of the lady I teach with everyday. He introduced me to this site and has been a huge help in getting me started caring for my vehicles properly. He was giving me grief because he cannot get the swirls out of his Mach 1.

Like you said. Your only looking for something that'll look good at 10' or more ;)

Amen! If we cannot have fun and laugh, then what kind of witness are we?

Looks good Matt. Mach 1 cars are rare, especially around here of that vintage!

Thanks Flash. I think I could go on forever sanding more and what not, but I have reached my goal. I can always sand more later on...or add more paint!!!

No problem Im the MAN
