Happy Friday!!!!!

Not much, still working on setting up the new laptop. Some Christmas shopping is done, still have quite a bit to do.

I was wondering where you were. What kind of laptop did you get and what are you putting on it?

Wow I've been missed?? LOL. I'm been around pretty much everyday, just haven't posted.

Anyway, got a Dell Inspiron 15R:
Intel i5 2.4Ghz
6 GB Ram
640 GB harddrive
DVDRW\BD-ROM
15.6 inch LED display
Switchable lids

Really happy with it so far. I'm not planning on loading anything wonderful. MS office and basic stuff like that. First thing I did was download Google Chrome, screw IE!

We have a netbook that my wife uses, I had used it quite a bit, but got sick of the 10 inch screen, and got tired of using my work laptop for personal stuff all the time.

Big thing is trying to get my iTunes moved over, tried everything and it will transfer some of the songs, but not all. Why can't they make that easy? LOL. I'm going to try to file\settings transfer thing this weekend, perhaps that will do it for me as I've been doing it manually (ie export playlist and import back in).

Learning my way around Windows 7 right now, just getting used to where things are at now. I'm learning I kind of like these Gadgets for the deskt.op, like weather and the CPU monitor.

This is my desktop currently, it'll probably get changed as soon as I get the pictures moved.

You usually do post late on my "Happy Friday" threads.

Man sounds like you got yourself a nice machine there. Those specs are pretty awesome. I was just looking to upgrade my ram in this machine (Dell Studio 1555). I just put Win7 on here not too long ago. Easiest Windows install I've ever done. I ran into the same issue with iTunes. I absolutely HATE the fact that you will not get all of your songs. Most songs made it this transfer though. But a few years ago, I had to rebuild my iTunes library. Only songs that would repopulate were the ones I bought.

Win7 has about a 2 week learning curve to learn all the basics. Overall I LOVE Win7. I prefer Mac's though. I do music production as my other hobby and Mac's are just WAY more stable.

Make sure you put a good anti-virus on there. I recommend AVG...you may also want to put a firewall on there. I don't trust Windows firewall. I use Zone Alarm.

Thanks! I originally had picked out a 17R with 17in display, 8GB and 750GB HD, but wife wanted me to wait to see if there was a better deal around the holidays. Think I'm glad I didn't get the 17 inch, my dad has one and it's a bit much to hold in your lap. I'm ok with the amount RAM and HD space, both can always be upgraded.

Yeah that 17" would have been too much. You did good with what you have. Blu-Ray must be amazing on that thing.

No idea. Don't own a single blu ray disc. Haven't decided it's worth the money to buy one for the house yet. Shoot, we just got an HDTV last November (50" Panasonic Viera Plasma 720p). Yeah, yeah, should have gone 1080 probably, but the research we did at the time said 50 and below 1080 wouldn't make a big difference. We didn't have blu ray, so why spend the extra 300-400 dollars.

Oh ok thats whats up. Is tne beta version any good?

That must be exciting to apart of a build cycle...never did that before. Now I'm really curious to see it.

Yeah I ordered from the factory because no dealers within 100+ miles had exactly what I wanted. Plus I wanted a color that is just now coming out. It's called black forest green pearl. Yeah, basically just bought another black car (the GF buying the other one in September lol). It looks pretty much black in cloudy/shade conditions but in bright sunlight a dark metallic green comes through.

and

are some good examples of pics of it. Mine will basically look like both of those, but is not the Rubicon model so will not have the logo, the extreme offroad tires, and will have step rails.

As far as the game, yes I was impressed with the beta. I've had the $150 (you read that right) Collector's Edition on pre-order for a few months now. I think I made a good choice :). The CE has a lot of goodies in it which is good I guess considering most CE versions of games are about 70-85 instead.

Yeah 50" is kind of the cutover between 720 and 1080. You don't need blu-ray though to see a difference. Some broadcast/cable stuff is in 1080. It's 1080i not 1080p but that's still a step above 720. All broadcast/cable HD is either 720p or 1080i over cable/satellite providers. I'm not sure if over the air broadcasts are 1080p at all though. I do know they are much higher quality than what you get for your local stations over the cable/satellite though. The video is up to 4x the bitrate of what cable/satellite compresses it to in order to fit in into their "pipe".

Well, I'm in deep crap. Lesson learned.. Don't finish a fifth of jack before 7.
