Selective Parking

Yes, that is one reason why I do not do that either, but occasionally I do if its in a relatively 'nice' place. I wonder how much of an idiot someone would look like if they put a car cover on their car at a parking lot? hmm…anyone ever do this lol?

I do sometimes. I have less separation anxiety with it covered.

One issue of parking in the farthest reaches of a lot is safety. Back around 1991 my GF now wife had a sweet 87 Mazda 323. It was 5 years old but looked brand new. We went to a movie and parked it way out to protect it. We came out and it was gone! It was locked, they found it a few days later in Wilmington DE at a chop shop. Her next new car a 92 Saturn SC always had the Club on from that point on.

Other thing, back in the 80's or 90's in the back pages of Road and Track and Car and Driver a place used to advertise nerf pads you would hang out your window that protected your doors when you parked. Made you look like a DB but would protect your car. Though at that point some a-hole would probably key you to make a point.

What I am curious of is, for those of you who take up more than one parking space, like by parking in the middle of two spots, have you ever gotten in trouble for doing that? My bro parks his car half of the time on the grass at shopping centers to avoid other cars. Only got in trouble once by the 'mall cop'.

I've never gotten in trouble for paking in the middle of 4 spots... i make sure my cab of the truck takes up two spots and my bed takes up the other two spots behind me... Usually when i come back to the parking lot, there are vettes and other expensive cars parked around me, as they know what i'm doing.

Not sure if anyone else does this, but when I come out of a store after I parked far away from everything out there and I notice cars parked around me, I analyze like a scientist if any new door dings have risen. Yes I am that anal about my baby, but I had someone in a move theater open his door into my side view mirror and I ended up having him pay for a new mirror, and a repaint on both mirror covers... I won't stand for it...

:iagree: This is exactly why i carry a small hatchet in my truck... if my door / doors have a ding in them, you better believe your car will have one too... The one nice thing about driving a truck is they have "step ups" or running boards, whatever you want to call them... usually a car door is going to hit the step up's and not come in contact with my paint... An SUV or another truck is a different story though.

That is the tricky thing to balance, finding an spot away from other cars that is still in clear view to people

My Idea was to get some color matched or at least close aftermarket moldings and put a magnet stip on the back so I could put them on the car when needed. What shot that down was the scratches it would leave.

I love when you park about 20 spots away from the next car, then you come out to find a car right next to yours.

I've never had my car keyed for taking up two spots, but ocasionaly the car park police stick a nasty sticker on my window

No problem for me though, as I am a detailer :)

what I don't get is the magnetic feature that a nice shiny car seems to have in a parking lot.

There will be 20 spaces in the row we are in that are closer to the store and I will be 5 spaces away from the nearest car and yet when we get back out someone will have parked right next to us
. Leaving 19 spaces that would have gotten them closer to the store.

We do the same thing with picking the vehicle we like less for the worse parking lots. Ironically though it has gotten less door dings through the years

ALWAYS happens! When it does I start cursing and HOPING the owner would be in ear shot!

I do that all the time ^

It's especially funny if your driving the beater, and then park 6" away from the car next to you

:)

I used to do this at work only when it would snow so I didnt have to take a scraper to my car at the end of the day. I agree it would look weird if someone did this in a regular parking lot.

Funny thing, my GF parked in a parking lot no cars around. We come out and theirs a Black Honda Accord next to her White Civic. I inspect the side they parked next to and what do I see....a fresh black ding and it looked pretty spot on and lined up to as if he opened his door into her's. What topped it off is my GF's car was very dirty and on the dent it looked like someone tried rubbing it out with her finger. Well what do I do ?!? My GF said ehh don't worry about it and I said nope. I face my back by they're door and donkey kick a huge dent into their door. I don't like when people have no regard for other peoples property. That's a good idea with the hatchet though :xyxthumbs:
