Daytona wheel brushes snapping off

Anyone else experienced the Daytona brushes breaking easily right by the handle? I have a large one that I bought about a year ago and used it on maybe 40 cars before it snapped. The small one was about half that many uses. I really tried not to bend it too many times, figuring it would eventually snap and it did anyway.

I also have a Meguiars brush that's less robust that hasn't snapped after 5-6 years and costs like half as much (though it doesn't have the protective coating on the wires).

I usually stored it handle up where the water should have drained down, so I don't think corrosion was an issue. If I bent it, it was typically closer to the tip to get around wheel parts.

I want to know that it's a quality product before I order a couple more and that it was either a fluke that two broke or maybe I was misusing them and they should really last for 100-200 cars.

For more than economical reasons, I go with the Carrand "branded" brushes. That includes their wheel brushes.

For even more cost savings, and still being sold as "branded" Carrand brushes, are the Turtle Wax brushes found at most auto parts/supply shops, as well as big-box discount stores.

Besides the obvious Turtle Wax badge emblazonment, the packaging label may also include: Licensed by Carrand, a Subsidiary of Hopkins Manufacturing Corporation.

IMHO....Economical doesn't always mean sacrificing quality.

these seems to pop up alot..for the price you would think they would be much better built.

Be glad you didn't have the EZ Brush. It wouldn't have even lasted you as long as the Daytona

IMO, both these brushes were designed to fail

On your next order, get one (or two) of these:

16 Inch Wire Wheel Brush

This thing won't bend or break but its very hard to maneuver, especially with rims that have less opening spaces between the spokes.

I've never had any problems with my Daytona Speedmaster. Then again I only use it on my car. I do feel that with alot of downward pressure you can break it.

E had mine for a year and no sign of problems yet but I'm sure it will happen at some point. I've got a set of wheel woolies that may take the brushes place if I like them enough

I wash my personal vehicles about 30-40x in a warm season, plus detail about 30 cars a season for a side business, so I may have used the bigger brush on 60 cars before it failed and the small one was less than that. That's $.50 per use for a $30 brush. That's very expensive in my book, even though I was thrilled with how well it worked and how it protected the rims.

I may have to try another option for this next season.

Get the one I linked you to. You won't regret it ;)

Hmmm....that one doesn't have a coated shaft or tip. That kind of scares me a bit. The tip fell off of my Meguiars brush and I don't use that one rims anymore. I'm just worried that I will scratch a rim if I'm in a rush.

Maybe the $30 brush is good insurance, even if it only lasts a season. Maybe I just have to make sure I keep it from bending at that weak point at the handle. Both brushes snapped there, so they must be bending there a lot and I'm not realizing it.

.

As long as you don't try to wash the face of the wheel with the tip of the brush, you'll have no problems

I've cleaned hundreds of different kinda wheels with this brush and have NEVER scratched one

Plus, these are less the $10

Your making a mistake if you don't try this brush

Mine broke too and they have a lifetime warranty so just call up and they will replace it =)

What?!?!? A Lifetime Warranty?!?!? You mean I threw $100 in the garbage?!?!?!?!?!?

Merry Christmas Chris and please tell Steve Chanukah Sameach

I like the 16 Inch Wire Wheel Brush.

Very sturdy and strong, I have never had a wheel scratched, only 9.99 and is long enough to get deep w/o hurting your hands. I soaked mine in some hot water first to soften it up and after a few uses the bristles are not that stiff anymore.

The weak point of both the EZ and Daytona brushes are at the handle. When rinsing, grab the wire and then shake the excess water out.
