After missing a few hundred dollars having my flex out of order I decided to invest in a smaller orbital as a back up machine. The PC isn't offered at 230v so we have to find other options. The chinese DAS6 is sold at around $240 here, it looks like a PC but I think its too much money for an unknown brand.

We have this massive warehouse called Bunnings around here, it sells tools and my question is, based on specs, do you guys think I can use this tool as a DA polisher?

Thanks!

The DAS6 has actually been, until fairly recently, the DA of choice in the UK - you can find a lot of feedback on it on Detailing World. As for the Ryobi, based on some members on our local forum who have had a chance to use it, it will work, but it's fairly easy to stop rotation, and the smaller orbit means that correction takes a lot longer.

From experience, most orbital wood sanders don't work as paint polishers.

Can't count how many times someone has joined a discussion forum and asked if such and such DA wood sander could be used to polish paint, the answer is given an "no" because it the sander won't maintain pad rotation under pressure and then the person asking the question comes back and verifies the pad wasn't rotate under pressure.

The PC started this entire DA polishing thing because its design allowed it to maintain pad rotation.

Whichever tool you decide to go with just keep in mind, it's only when the pad is rotating and oscillation under pressure that swirls, scratches, oxidation and other paint defects are removed.
