Sealant Advice?

Hey guys.. I've been noticing an issue with the durability of my Wolfgang paint sealant.

If drive the car through a rain storm or two, let the dirt/grime sit on the car for that week, it will basically strip my Wolfgang sealant off when I wash it. I have to wash the rear of the car 3 times to get it clean.. and it barely beads at all afterward. The rear of the car is beginning to show a little marring since it isn't well protected! All of this after the sealant was applied two weeks and one wash before. It's fresh sealant!

I usually apply the wolfgang once every 2 months & let it sit overnight for curing. The areas that do not get soiled from rainstorms are amazing. Incredible gloss, beading, sheeting, and smoothness on the hood & roof that lasts.

I use this for washing, which seems to be very gentle:

I also have another wash which is a little more aggressive.. made by a local detailing company, but it takes the smoothness away from the entire car. I really do love Wolfgang sealant, but it just seems weak.

Do you all have any suggestions for the most durable sealant available? I want to keep that incredible slick finish & protection for the entire car.

So far I have had great luck with Wolfgang sealant and my new favorite is Blackfire Wet Diamond. You can always add Collinite 845 for more protection.

I am sure there are stronger sealants/combos out there and I am sure people with harsher weather will chime in. Not much rain here in SD.
 
Thanks! Maybe that's what I'm lacking.. protection for the protection. I don't wax it after I put the sealant on. Maybe I'll pick up some 845 and throw it on top and see if that helps.
 
The car wash you're using works well and if used according to Meguiar's directions should provide you with the results you're looking for without stripping sealants and waxes.

Wolfgang Deep Gloss Sealant is a nice product however from what I've seen lacks long term durability.

Layering sealants also seems to improve things an adding a wax like Collinite 845 adds an extra barrier of protection as well.
 
The high solvent content of 845iw will tear through the Wolfgang. Don't waste your time. 2 coats of 845a will more then meet your needs.
 
It's all about the prep. Clay, polish, IPA wipe to prepare the surface, then apply LSP(s). A well-polished surface will provide much better water beading/sheeting. If the paint surface is full of embedded contaminates, it totally ruins the effects your looking to get out of your sealant, try the plastic bag trick on the troublesome section.

Why do you have to wash the rear section three times to get it clean? That seems odd, is it a repaint?

When you leave the sealant on to cure overnight, is the car inside away from any dew/condensation?

I believe this to be true too. I see many people say that they put 845 over another product, and I think the best that one can hope for is a mix of the 2 after curing.

The 845 is so high in solvent, that I don't think any traditional sealant could be undisturbed when appying 845 iw.
 
Also, if you can find it, try Autoglym HD Wax. Great long lasting protection and beading.
 
how about trying a different shampoo. your is a wash plus wax. maybe the wax in the shampoo is hindering the bond between sealant and paint.
 
I have the same issue with WGDGS. It will bead great until a leaf or something falls on it.
 
Not liking the sound of this. I just bought the entire WG paint correction kit during the 12 day sale. Was going to try something different than Zaino. Maybe I'll continue using Z as a sealant and top it with Fuzion. Love the Fuzion wax!
 
WGPS, DFWD and Rejex seem very sensitive to moisture in their curing stage. If they get wet/dew or lots of humidity, their durability suffers.
 
Great info.. glad to see a few others who have experienced the same thing with WG.

Yank, you will not be disappointed with the rest of the kit trust me. Wolfgang polishes are still my favorite. They are so user friendly and finish off flawlessly.

I have to wash the rear 3 times because it simply doesn't get clean. I am very light with the sponge to avoid swirling, but it is similar to washing a filthy car that has never been waxed!

Usually I don't prep much other than washing. The paint is very slick, although I will need to clay and polish the rear again now.

BobbyG, thanks for that list. I'll research those some more. I have heard great things about the Klasse. Thanks for your help everyone.

I don't know what rwright's opinion would be, but I think the paste versions of Collinite's waxes are far less likely to disturb the sealant underneath than 845 IW.

IMO, 845 cleans the paint as well as many of the "cleaner waxes" available, although it isn't categorized that way.

You'll never be happy with any product if you read this forum too much. You'll see praise in one post and problems in another.

Every car is different and some will take one product well and others won't. Not to mention there is a different application method for every user, so many different sets of circumstances.

Don't second guess yourself. I'm a fan of Wolfgang, as are many others.
 
In my experience that Megs WW "soap" can have a very negative affect (temporarily at the very least) on the excellent properties left by sealants and some other lsp. I think that is part of it. Ime, it slows sheeting, reduces slickness, and makes me frown...

All the advice about prep is of course relevant just adding my 02.

Oh, also sealants and waxes don't protect the vehicle from marring. Only good technique and incredible attention to detail can do that.
