I'm uncertain about going through my insurance to have this repaired. I've never had my cars keyed before. It doesn't look too bad. I had a double coat of Sonus Polycharger sealant which probably helped. I will have to factor in the cost vs my $250 comprehensive deductible through Geico. Has anyone here actually gone through insurance to have a key scratch repaired? Did you have to get a police report? I once had a hit and run which required a police report but this is a little different. I have already driven the car for 2 days now, so if I did have to get a police report I would have to park it and lie and say it happened here even though it happened far away.Feed back please

I can't understand why people key cars. It's something that a psycho would do. It doesn't seem as something that a normal calm person would do.

Tomorrow I'm going to go to the Kia dealer where there is a mobile paint repair guy. There is also another mobile guy up the road from the Kia dealer. I used this guy once to repair a bumper scratch on my old Subaru. Geico cut me a check for $700 and the guy repaired it for $150. So I basically kept the rest of the check. Colors on Parade, auto dent repair, scratch repair, paintless dent repair

It's a franchise type business. You can search by area to find out where the nearest mobile franchise is.

Had a 99 cougar keyed last year. Police took report, Paid $100 co-pay, and insurance fixed, no questions asked.

I share in your heartache and have been in your shoes. I see the SOB's got both sides and this is a damn shame.

Some of it can be buffed and made less noticeable. Richy did a great tutorial on repairing a scratch so if you're inclined to give it a shot here it is.

At the very least go to your insurance company and get a couple of estimates to repaint and see what the cost totals. I don't think you need to file a report with the police but let your insurance company take the lead. If they feel you should then just stop by and pick up a report and say it happened at a local mall or something.

Because they're envious / jealous and will never have anything in life except hemorrhoids and Syphilis. May the fleas of 1000 camels infest their crotch!! :bat: :bash:

Lots of definitions for "normal". There are misanthropes lumbering around that blame the rest of the world for their lot in life and always looking to p**s in someone's Wheaties. They may not have the gray matter or goal setting abilities to improve their situation so bringing others down to their level is their way of equalizing things. Age old struggle of the have-nots vs the haves. They think their life sucks and it must be someone else's fault.

If I ever become King the order for random destruction of other's property will be "shoot on sight". Crude but effective. I'll get right on that as soon as I finish with the executions.

Perhaps if the Flash/Bobby ticket is elected they'll create a cabinet level position for me.

I second that motion :dblthumb2:

OP Now is the time to practice wetsanding (after the adjuster looks at it)

SMH (shaking my head)....UUUGGHHH I wish you would have walked out right while the guy/girl was keying your car. You know, as a kid I pulled some pranks but NEVER did I ever think about keying someone's car. Karma will come back on him/her ten folds. If you were out somewhere, did they have camera's in the parking lot?

Very well said!!! We all make decisions, sacrifices, etc that allow us to have what we do...

Maybe we should start randomly correcting the paint on a small area of someone's car so it stands out like a key scratch!!!

Well It looks like I'll be going through Geico. I went to the mobile paint guy and he said he could only get it back to 80%. The car isn't even a year old and I want it looking like it was before the keying.

Geico was fast and simple. No police report. I take my car in on Thursday and I have rental coverage which is good.

Thats whats up man...Hopefully they'll get it looking good again!

It sure sucks, I'm sure they'll get you back to a showroom shine in no time.

I had my 1969 Camaro keyed (back when I had one). It had to be repainted.

Well the CR-Z is back to showroom shine. My problem now is adding wax to the newly painted surface. It's in the dead of winter. Not exactly a good time to wax. Can anyone recommend a product that's easy to put on in the freezing winter? I want to protect the newly painted panels.

That still sucks that you had to go through all that.

Did you ever do anything to piss someone off? or park in 2 spots? or park away from everyone?

No It was some desperate drag queen that wished that he/she has a cute car like the CR-Z. Geico fixed it and I went ahead and splurged and bought a OEM spoiler at a decent price from the Honda dealer to make this that much more better.

Glad you got it back. I would ask whoever painted that car if you should wait before you wax it.

Most paints need to gas out before wax is applied. You might need to wait up to 45-60 days...

That sucks man. At least everything was taken care of. If anyone ever does this to my Mustang I really don't know what I'd do. Probably not something I'd put into writing. LOL

It's so funny how many times I avoided using insurance like my premium was going to go up a million dollars. Instead, I cost myself thousands in un-repaired/claimed vehicles when it only would have cost a couple hundred here and there. Live and learn. Now I share my knowledge and tell everyone I can to call their insurance agent ASAP. Tried to tell a friend of mine with his 2011 Ducati 1198, but he insisted to have another friend help him rebuild it with Chinese parts. Italian and Chinese, they just don't mix, on so many levels.LOL Funny thing is the fairings he wrecked, I compounded/polished them, and they look better than the freshly painted fairings he got from China.LMAO Live and learn, or keep going through the pain is what some ppl have to do.:)
Glad Geico hooked it up and you are moving on, back to sanity.LOL
And do wait at least 30 days before waxing the new paint. Talk to the body shop to know for sure.

Why Avoid using insurance? That would be like throwing away money. My Geico policy has helped me so much. My old Subaru was hit and run 2 times. No Questions, but I most definitely had to get a police report. I paid MD $250 uninsured motorist hit and run. I got a free rental car. I'm so sick of the illegals driving with no insurance. Some are nice people but there's no excuse for not driving with proper insurance.

My Geico rates never went up from these claims because they were not from my negligence. I always make sure my comprehensive deductible is $250 or lower. The Collisions is 1,000:o. But every since I got my license at 16. I have never been in "at fault" accident. It's the douche bag minivan and SUV people that I have to watch for.
