PC 7424 vs 7424XP

I have one of the original PC 7424, and it has been a fantastic tool. I have had no problems or issues with it at all. What exactly is the difference between that and the 7424XP? Do you guys think I should upgrade?

There's nothing wrong with up grading but why not step up to bigger/better unless you are already there. My .02

IMO I would "upgrade" to a Flex 3401. This what I did and I couldn't be happier

Flex is a beast compared to PC. More power, better build, and most importantly, forced rotation. That is good and bad. Forced rotation means the pad wont stop spinnng under load and gives you more correcting power. Downside is, the forced rotation makes it want to walk a lot more on you. The PC, Griots and Megs are all easier to control.

How is the PC compare to the Flex?

Comparing apples to oranges.

Flex = Direct Drive
PC, Megs, Griot's Shurhold, etc. = Free Spinning


The normal route that people go when transitioning from hand to machine goes like this,

PC, Megs, Griot's --> Flex 3401 --> Rotary Buffer


One thing I notice is once people master the PC style tool they'll tend to want more power because the pad on the PC style tools can stop rotating in certain situations. That's normal, (people wanting a more powerful tool), but they forget from where it was they came... that is working by hand.

When people switch from working by hand to working by machine it's AWESOME! The results are always faster and better... but as they master the PC style tools they forget the awesomeness factor because their skill, experience and knowledge level is greater and now they're ready for more power and a new level of awesomeness.

Is there really that big of a difference between the 7424 and the 7424xp? I have a 7424. Is it underpowered?

I am very very sorry if this is a no no but I watched this video when I was originally selecting and choosing which da I wanted to initially purchase. It is a different company then AG so I hope its "promoting" will not get me in trouble or this video removed but I understand if it does. Just some real world reactions to the differences...

Im sure AG has better prices then them anyhow lol.

Oh and by the way, these people are bozos but like I said, just showing a little comparison.

Like everyone else said I would keep your PC and upgrade to either a FLEX 3401 or FLEX PE-15. My goal is to have a polisher in every 'category'. The FLEX 3401 kind of defines it's own. I personally don't know of any other polishers that fit into it.
