Don't wash the Challenger!

If I ever have the money to purchase a new car its what I will do.

There is no need for the dealer to touch it. I guarantee you they will do more harm than good. DONT LET THEM TOUCH IT. :)

I went even farther.

I knew my salesman and he phoned me to let me know their delivery truck was going to get there in an hour. I was there in 45 minutes. Told the truck driver that I was so excited that my new Ford Cobra was on his truck and I was going to video tape it's arrival. Watched it come (slowly) down the ramp and into their indoor storage building. My salesman met me there and we did a walk around with the sticky white paper still on the bodywork. No damage and no loose edges on the sticky white protective paper. We went back inside the dealership and finished the paperwork. I went outside and drove my new car home. With the plastic bags on the seats. The protective paper on the body and carpets. Even the little foam bag on the shift knob.

Got home and carefully removed all the plastic, foam, and protective paper. Car and finish was perfect. Not one swirl or micro-marring anywhere. I washed the car without soap, just filtered water. Drove it for two months them gave it the complete Zaino treatment. Didn't need to do any type of correction for the first two years.

I will do that with every car I ever buy. Even the cars on the showroom floor have damaged finishes. Why pay good money for something that you just hate.

Smart move. Two years without any correction is fantastic. Would love to see a pic of that car.

Dealership brushes use cheap ones, no such things as boars hair brushes at dealership. When I use to work at Lexus, you would go crazy if we washed your car. These buckets with soap, holding the brushes were filthy and had rocks in them.

Bring it home safety and enjoy your new car.

A few months ago I was purchasing my car and the guy said "alright I'll have them pull it around and give it was wash before you take off." I politely said "no thanks", the salesman looked at me like I was a fool. Later 2 or 3 other salesmen came over to ask if I was the guy who passed up a free wash. To funny, people just don't understand.

Good luck with yours, I've had good luck when I tell the dealership to not wash it. Usually body shops never understand in my experience.

Question: I've never ordered a vehicle, so the one's i've owned were always on the lot, with the plastic covering removed from the paint already... How hard is it to remove the white plastic from the paint? Is there any adhesive to hold it to the paint, or is it more like shrink wrap when they store a boat for the winter?

It's easy to remove but there is usually some adhesive left on the edges in some areas.

I had a client who ordered a new M3 last summer tell the sales guy he would refuse the order if it had been washed and he even had me come the day of delivery to inspect the car. :props:

Sales guy was freaked out a little when I busted out the brinkmann but the car looked good. ;)

Lol I am loving the no detail on the back window!

I can only imagine what the sales person was thinking when you pulled out the brinkman. Thats actually not a bad idea, I'll bring that with me when I go car shopping :)

When picking up my last vehicle that I factory ordered I brought my tactical light and my paint depth meter... My car took a long boat ride here and docked in jersey... It's not unheard of for damage to occur and be repaired at the dock so I was looking for any above average readings.... Ya, they think I'm nutz and I love it!

One of my customers told the dealer not to touch his black crew cab dually Duramax when it came in and do not put the dealership sticker on it. :xyxthumbs:

Well, they didn't wash it, but they did put the sticker on.:( When he called them on it the dealer said they would grab a buffer and buff the sticker off. He firmly said "No" because he was bringing it to his 'detail guy' (me) right away and that I would take care of it.

The dealer tried to tell him that a new truck doesn't need "detailing" and couldn't understand the concept of a proper cleaning and sealing. (He wanted Zaino on the truck right away)

Just got off phone with salesperson. Told her "I know this sounds crazy, but on top of

no washing the car I want you to leave all the plastic on it too." She said no problem.

We'll see right?

Yea did you sign and pay for it already? If not make them address this in the sales contract, "Contract is voided if washed and plastic is removed".
Congratulations by the way. Is this a R/T or SRT-8?

I really hope they listen to you. Make sure that when you pull the film off, to check under the side mirrors. They left some on there and for the longest I couldn't get it off. You may want to pick up some scrape rite plastic razor blades to use while removing the film. I used that and plenty of QD and it worked like a charm

Dont forget to post LOTS of pics!! :hungry:

Love Challengers and can't wait to see one fresh off the truck ;) btw what color/trim/packages did you order it with?

I ordered a Challenger Rt/ Classic. Bright Silver w/black stripes, Sun roof, 20 inch wheels ,

manual trans and some other things. Srt 8 was to pricey for my wallet. I'm jacked about this

though. Trust me, I'll post plenty of pics!!

Glad to hear that the dealer seems to understand what you want. The one thing that I noticed is when I went to the Corvette factory in Bowling Green, KY after the car is completely assembled and ran on the dyno it goes straight through the tunnel wash. It didn't look like there were any brushes. But it still isn't as safe as proper hand washing. My point is, there is a good chance the car could be washed at the factory before the plastics are put on. I do hope for a safe and swirl free delivery of your new car though! :dblthumb2:

Just talked to the sales person. Car just rolled off the truck last night. No prep other

than checking the fluids will be done. Going tonight to start finalizing the deal. If all

goes well she should be in my garage by Saturday!!

Congrats, and good luck!

My Dad picked up a used STS-V last year. It has been put through the wringer, I had checked it out before purchase, but we still insisted that they don't "detail" it before we picked it up. My hands were already full with it, I didn't want them to make it any worse!

Of course, I get it looking good, and he doesn't worry about the upkeep, so it looks like crap. I hate working with black Cadillacs!

I'm sure everything will go well. Can't wait to see the pics ! :hungry:

Ditto that "inyadreems"..as far as if they wash it..they can keep it.." Boars hair brushes are only as good as the person using them.
