So with the AG sales, good excuse to get some new LC pads - first off, I am just a weekend warrior and do it for fun.

As for pads - I was down to the Hi-Gloss CCS pads in Orange, White and Red or would it be better to get the CCS flat ones in the same color? Is the one with the dimples "supposedly" better or does it just build up polish in the dimples?

Many like the flat pads and I prefer them over the dimpled ones. I really like that they have a beveled edge, making them more comfortable to use with my rotary.

In your situation, I would order the six-pack.

If your vehicle has some swirling: 2 Orange, 3 White and 1 Blue (to apply wax).

If it has many swirls: 3 Orange, 2 White and 1 Blue.

If you want to apply wax by hand, skip the blue pad and get 3 Orange, 3 White.

i was a little confused what's the true difference in the black/gray, red or blue pads right? it almost seems the same?

btw blue isn't a choice for the CCS ones.

Red Pads: ... ideal for applying the final coat of wax or sealant...

Black Pads: ... final finishing to remove buffer swirls. It has no cut ...

Blue Pads: ... has soft composition for applying glaze, finishing polish, sealants, and liquid waxes...

for a noob like me, that's too many choices = LOL

i read Mike Phillips said Orange, White and Black/Gray covers it :xyxthumbs:

i think i have the same dilemma. i've been looking at this PC kit of AG for weeks now.

Porter Cable 7424 & Foam Pad Kit - Car Buffer

if i were to buy this kit right now, i'll probably choose these pads for the following reasons:

orange pad for heavy swirls
white pad for light swirls
black pad for AIO
blue or red pad for wax and sealants

hope that helps.

To me, I should have orange and white pads. I will get more white pads though, especially that I use a couple of them with DG501 to clean my paint. The difficulty in washing the DG501 from the pad speaks for its durability. So, I dedicated two white pads for DG501 only.
You may also get a black pad if you want to use PO85RD, Ultrafina, Opt. Finish Polish. etc.
Is that a BMW in your avatar? If so, I heard that its paint is generally hard. So you may consider getting a couple MF pads or Surbuf to act as reinforcements in case an orange pad struggles with your paint.

Hehe, I'd suggest something slightly different, and suggest getting four of the 5" MF cutting pads, then 3 each of the 5" flat orange and white pads. Also get some black or blue pads if you plan on applying wax or sealant by DA.

I would go with 2 Orange, 2 White, 2 Black 5.5" LC Flat pads. Should be able to tackle most of anything and IMO finish better on softer paint then the MF pads.

I agree, this is what I would order too

i ended up getting the orange, white and red instead of black.
