I have both backing plates for both size pads and I understand that the 5.5's would de better for correction, but how well do the 6.5's do? Do want to feel like I wasted my money on the 6.5's? I have yellow, orange, white, green and red in all sizes. I haven't used the 6.5's yet to see how they feel. How well will they do cutting? Should I just use the 6.5's on large areas that don't need a lot of correction? Your thoughts The polish/compounds I have are menz SIP, PF, SF and PL. Thanks

I have the Flex 3401 and an assortment of the 6.5" LC CCS and flat pads. They will work well on larger flatter areas that need correction - hood, roof, trunk. I use the 5.5" pads for all other areas. You didn't waste your money, but after your 6.5" pads are used up (no longer usable) you can just invest in more 5.5" pads.

Sleep well, you can use the 6.5" pads without issue,

Ok cool.I was hoping that would be the case. I figured they would be good on large areas, but I just wasn't sure on how well it would correct. I will use my PC for sealants and stuff.

I didn't like the 6.5 pads on my Tacoma because there are too many curves. But on other vehicles they are great. Just depends on the vehicle. Both correct fine with the power of the Flex 3401

I even tried megs 7" yellow pad on 3401.

Its funny how 3401 is more powerful then G110/220. It worked well .. way better then my G220.

This is not correct for the Flex 3401, it has forced rotation and will not slow down or stop rotating under excessive load. In fact the larger diameter pads may have more correcting power due to the outer edge having a higher rotational speed than a smaller diameter pad at the same speed setting. I find 6.5" pads to be ideal with my 3401. IMO, once you've worn out the 5.5" pads, invest in more 6.5".

It is the case that 5.5" pads are better for polishers like the PC and GG, which the pad will stop rotating with even a slight excess of pressure (a safety feature to prevent burn-through). Larger pads make this "safety feature" even more pronounced.

Whether the larger pad size is appropriate for a specific panel or small area is a different matter. I'd like a backing plate for 3" pads on the 3401 to compliment 6.5", but my rotary has 3" pads to fill that gap.

My $0.02, FWIW

I put your .02 in my pocket! I guess I should look into an even smaller backing plate for the flex so I can run 3-3.5" pads for tight areas??

The smallest BP (4") for 3401 is yet to be released end of February.
Smaller BP for 3401 are not available.

Yes I've seen. It seems the best I could do for myself is just get 3.5" BP for my PC and use the smaller pads on that...
