2011 Dodge Charger Detail

I will be detailing(polish& sealing) a 2011 Dodge Charger tomorrow . It is dark blue with metal flake,paint is in good shape except some washing swirls. I plan on using Duragloss 101 pc Polish & cleaner with Porter Cable DA & Lake County's white polishing pad as I don't have the green one. I plan on letting the 101 cure for at least 18 hours the applying 3m's Performance Finish. I Have some 3m Show Car Pastewax that would prob. look better but I'm going with PF for ease of use and longevity!



I was wondering if anyone knows if these two products will play well together?

Ok ,so the detail to 2011 charger is done.Despite only 6 mos old there were plenty of contaminants to be clayed of the finish,I used Clay Magic's bar.I used the polish and method mentioned above.The wash swirls were reduced about 85% and there was some minor water spot etching left behind.The 101 left a very nice gloss and felt quite slick.While it looks nice I am dissatisfied with the remaining swirls and water spot etching.
Did I need to use a more aggressive polish? pad? or both?I used the PC on #4 setting,too my my time ,kept constant pressure and pad compressed.
What could I have done different to achieve a spotless swirl free finish?

That's why I invested in a variety of polishes and pads. The white pad you used dosent have a whole lot of cut. I use it as a finishing polish pad after ive used an orange or yellow. LC of course

Unfortunately the white are the more aggressive 6.5" pads I have,I have a couple of 4" cutting pads.I had abandoned the Idea of detailing for $,but I am once again inspired and obsessed!I'm starting out from rock-bottom basically.:xyxthumbs:

I would recommend megs 105-205. But megs UC&UP are good too. You can pick some up at auto zone.

I have never used duragloss, but from reading up on it, it seems like it's not very aggressive. Like you said, you got 85% of it out. I'm sure you would get the rest of it out with more aggressive polishes and pads.

Was shopping around earlier today ,was at Autozone ,I did see those,went to Pepboys,Carquest and Napa.Carquest had Duragloss CCW $20 for 1 gal! Napa had a very poor selection and even some outdated & discontinued products!

I did not purchase anything from those places instead place an order with AG earlier today!
I got Optimum's Poli-Seal since I was interested in a AIO with some abrassives,and Optimum's ONR 32 oz. BOGO FREE! So stoked! Im the MAN

I own a 2011 Dodge Charger. It's a large car to detail with lots of odd angles and ridges. There's hardly a flat panel on it. The metallic black flake is hard to keep perfect, but it looks great when it's swirl free and clean.

Despite my best winter efforts, I've got some minor swirls showing and I'm drooling to do a spring detail that will include; Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover 3.0, Poorboys Polish, Klasse AIO, all topped with #845.

Now, did you notice the most annoying thing ever done by Dodge on a car? Something that makes me go "grrrrrrrr" every time I wash my car? In an attempt to isolate noise out of the cabin, Dodge put fabric under the front wheel wells. It's sort of like Scotchbrite - it's meant to keep engine noise out of the cabin. And it may do that, but mostly it picks up strand of grass and other lightweight debris that's almost impossible to remove without taking the wheel off and picking at it with a pair of tweezers.

Anyway, nice job on the Charger- those chrome wheels are shining!!

MJN - Yep! That's the stuff. That's interesting that other manufacturers are using it too. Terrible stuff to keep clean. I'm not a car designer, but it seems like common sense that you wouldn't put a fabric-like material that picks up dirt and debris that is very hard to clean -- in the wheel wells! But Dodge isn't calling me to design their cars, so what do I know, ha ha!

WOW!!! Those rims are really shiny! What did you use on the rims?

I used Klasse AIO with a cotton applicator and hand polished/cleaned them! Thanks.

I figuered the rims were fairly new and did not need an intensive polishing.Although they look nice I'm sure a dedicated chrome polish with a power tool(Mother's powerball) would have brought out a more flawless luster.Flawless,that's what we aim for is it not?Then a hand application of KAIO would be great after that.I have a spray wax called Final Detail ,it contains Dupont Zonyl(similar to Teflon),it leaves a very bright finish,too bright for pant to me.I will use it on the wheels,it should add some extra repellency on top of the AIO,plus I,m curious how it looks on chrome!Will take pics.
