Hey y'all...

Well, I couldn't take it anymore, so as of this weekend, Marilyn once again LIVES :) The weather has been in upper 30's and 40's all week and looks to be that way from here on out, with a few good rainfalls to wash away the remaining salt and debris from the roads. This was the shortest time I have ever had my car stored... 1-1/2 months. What a weird winter. I hope spring is here to stay because it sure feels like it. So given that, I got too excited, so Marilyn is now officially out and about for 2012. How many of you got your baby out and can share a similar story? This was also a big weekend because this was Marilyn's FIRST oil change, at 792 miles on the clock.

It just felt SO good to start her up again, drive her, hear that booming exhaust and engine, and feel that MGW shifter in my hands again... two words to describe it, PURE BLISS.

Things I got done this weekend:

1) Activated insurance to full coverage (non-storage)
2) Charged her up fully.
3) Changed oil/oil filter (FIRST OIL CHANGE!!! 792 miles on the odo.)
- Amsoil Sig Series 5W-20
- Amsoil Oil Filter EA017
- Magnetic drain plug (M12 x 1.75) and nylon washer

(biggest thing to point out, I used the ziploc baggie trick for the oil filter, first time I did that. What a great idea. No oil spill whatsoever. I also wanted to test out a couple new goodies I got from Sears over the weekend... my new aluminum low profile jack and creeper. Since going with K springs, my older jack couldn't get under. My jack had a LED light!!! It really helped me locate the jacking point pinch weld. Pardon the pic of the jack, that was taken with my smartphone.)

Some pics of Marilyn's coming out party... these are just simple pics, non HDR. I forgot my tripod in my excitement... lol...

In the very last picture, I thought I held my own against a white Shelby??? What do you think? I do know that I DO want that Shelby wing for sure. The rims would be nice someday...

Btw, I drove the car right out of the garage and snapped some pics. So it's covered in dust, etc.... and is also wearing the same fuzion on her since late November/early December. Fuzion makes ANYthing look good, AND it lasts!!! lol.

Can you please elaborate on this? I'd like to learn this trick as well!

Your car is looking mighty nice!!! I'm glad to hear it's out of hibernation. You need to have fun with your car.

Car is looking great!

I live in Texas, so we get to drive year round!

Unfortunately, it's been raining just about solid the last 2-3 weeks, so my Mustang and Z1000 have been sitting patiently in the garage. I may need to sneak them out here in the next couple days if the sun stays out!

Love the springs - gives it a great, muscular stance. I want to something similar to the Charger, but I think I'm going to get an aftermarket cat back exhaust first.

800 miles seems a bit early to be switching to synthetic oil unless you broke it in on a dyno or the factory fill is synthetic (which means the factory broke it in on a dyno) :dunno:

You should check out the Pig Form-A-Funnel on Aircraftspruce.com. A good way to keep oil off the engine when changing filters.

Still looking just as good the last time I saw it. Love the stance it has with the Ford Racing springs.:props:

You can see how the Shelby wing would look on her here: Customize Your 2012 Mustang Sports Car | Performance Parts, Wheels, Paint & Personalized Accessories | Ford.com

I know my dad probably wishes he stored his stang at home this winter instead of his usual place. He could have had it out quite a bit this "winter". We'll be waking her up in a couple weeks though.

Chris thanks for the props and info man ;) Yeah, I've seen the wing in person on a buddy's 5.0. It looks really sharp. I'm not a fan of the ricey park bench wings, obviously, but I just thought my stock decklid spoiler is a little TOO subtle... lol. The Shelby wing is a genuine Ford part, so it's not like I'm going overboard.

Hey Mark, thanks for the kind words. Yes, I am definitely going to drive her a lot this time around. My last 2 toy cars have had pitifully low miles, and now the NEW owner is enjoying what I did not. No more of that. I will drive her. Ford can make me a new one when the time comes ;)

As for the baggie trick, this only applies to the filter. The oil drain plug you do like normal. For the oil filter, get a Zip Lop Baggie ready. Start loosening the filter first, don't put the baggie on yet. As you start to spin the filter by hand, at that point, place the baggie onto the filter and make sure it covers as much of the filter as possible all the way to the filter base. Start spinning the filter by grasping it through the baggie. And start spinning accordingly. I would spin it a little, then readjust the baggie, spin a little, readjust, repeat...You'll notice the oil start spilling into the baggie. Continue spinning until filter comes off. VOILA. No oil spill, and filter and dirty oil is all contained. Zip it up and toss it out ;)

I learned this trick from someone on my stang forum... so I don't deserve any credit ;)

Thanks stangman. Yeah what stang do you have? Got any pics? You are lucky to be in Texas! Enjoy that weather.

Thank you! Yeah the springs are one of my favorite mods. I love the stance too. They make em for the chargers right? I'd suggest getting some.

I've went to synthetic on all my prior cars from day 1. My G, and my Z... both of which, I have noticed it running SO much better almost immediately after the first change. The issues involved with going to synthetic from the start are a myth.

The 5.0 factory fill, I believe has a synthetic blend to it... but it's not full synthetic. With Amsoil Sig Series, now it is ;)

I have that same jack. Ive seen nothing but horrible reviews on it so I bought it to test it out haha. 2.5 years later and it still works perfect.

I thought I was going to have to put my car away this year but the weather is amazing. Record setting temperatures like every day haha.

Car is still beautiful! Looking forward to HDR shots. Too bad I can't use the zip lock baggie trick, both of our cars have top mounted filters (2.4L Regal, 2.0L T/C HHR).

Interesting...I don't remember ever seeing a post or pics by you. But I saw the title of this and my first thought was a Mustang GT. btw looks good w/springs. I hate when people slam a muscle car, especially a Stang. My 05 has those springs and I love the look.

Looks awesome, however it looks like we are going to get pounded with some rain into light snow tonight. It may stay west of you though.

This winter has been crazy for sure. A lot of the Subaru guys are going bank to their summer setup, and when it looks like it will stay above freezing I will be putting the summer tires back on as well.

BRILLIANT idea on the ziploc oil filter change. Just reading it I know exactly what you mean and it is the missing link I have been looking for. Now with the fumoto valve and that trick I shouldn't have a drop of oil to worry about.

Yeah, this weather has been tempting me. I still have not uncovered her, but, it is coming early this year. We have had very little sand on the roads this year. That is usually what holds me back.

I have that jack too. No problems at all. Works great. I would like to it to be a little lower profile.

I hope spring will be here to stay. I remember couple years back when we got a blizzard during spring break! Awesome vehicle btw.

Thx bill. Yeah the ziplock idea wasn't mine... Some guy on my stang forum alerted me to it. But it is indeed brilliant.

Yeah the Subie guys I know must know you, bill. Do you know Dustin from the ia city/cr group? Few guys did indeed swap tires already.

As for snow tonight, that's ok...supposed to go back to mid forties rest of week so it won't stay.

Nice. I really like that blue.

Thx bunky. I am madly in love with that color.

Get that beast out! Hehe. It's at 3.5" which makes it under my lowered stang... Whew... But yeah lower is better.

thank you kindly. Let's hope winter is done.

Trust me, I am having withdrawal. I cant get mine under the spoiler in the front. The jack point is too far under the front end. The main body of the jack gets in the way. I have to jack up the side with my little jack a couple inches to get it under there.

I use the baggie method too. It helps, but, still get some oil on floor, car and me.

Oh I've been around for a while. Just haven't posted much lately. Hard to get motivated to detail when it's winter out and my daily beaters are covered in grime :(

Ah you go thru the front. I see. I just jack up the sides via pinch welds, then stands on frame then voila.
