Trying to get some facts and opinions on this brush, I really want to buy it, but I'm hesitant that it many mar/scratch my paint even if used correctly or should I just stick with my grout sponge?

From the descriptions it doesn't say if it's blond boar's hair or not, which I think is supposed to be softer and safer. I am considering it for use on my SUV which makes getting to the roof, middles areas easier.

Thoughts?

Ive always been to scared to try one. But maybe someone can shed some light on your question, and comfort me at the same time.

I've used them (other retailers) and it scratched the Pilot. Maybe because it's black and has extremely soft paint. But I wouldn't try it even with a rock hard clearcoat like a Vette or Benz.

I was looking to get one to wash truck bed covers. But I would be pretty hesitant to use it on paint.

i guess the consensus is a no-go. oh well i'll stick with a GS and MF chenille.

Dear armoredsaint

I believe these brushes are softer if they've been wet for a few minutes, but I don't know for sure.

Check out SM Arnold wash mops, specifically parts 85-332 and 85-333. These have cotton chenille heads.

I think I like using a mop better than I like climbing up on a stool. The stool is fine so long as it and my shoes are dry, but once they get wet, things get a little slippery.

I believe I can avoid falling in 99 out of 100 car washes while using the stool. This means I probably should ditch the stool.

My thoughts - "NO." I have a rim cleaning brush that is made of the same material. While cleaning the front rim I was in a hurry. The brush hit the outter portion of the wheel well where there is paint. It left quite a few superfical scratches.

Dear irfan

for roofs on suvs you guys should def look into a werner platform! can catch them on sale at home depot for $20. they are amazing!

Have you seen these for US$20 at any other time than November and December?

My wife bought one for me for US$20, but it was during the holidays a couple of years ago.

They're very useful for working on high hoods and roofs for extended periods.

As I said in my first post to you - I am heading to Home Depot. Found it. Cost was $44.00. Never giving it any thought, I opened it and was walking around on top of it when BLAM one end of this sucker just caved in. I never read instructions - so it came to no big surprise when I DID read the instructions that stated to "lock" the ends so they wouldn't give it. Short fall but the landing wasn't as good as I anticipated for a nano second.

Tks for the recommendation.

Yea I'm fine. Nothing hurt but my pride. I figured how difficult would it be to set a ladder up? Well I quickly found out. It's now in the LOCKED position where it shall remain. I used it today to get some bird dung off the roof of my Ram. Great little invention and one I wish I had found earlier.

I checked on-line first and it said $44.00 and that's what I paid for it right at Home Depot. Well minus my 10% military discount.

I have this brush and it works very well for me. Care must be taken to pre-soak it before use.I set it into my wash bucket soap solution 5-10 min before use. After each panel it gets rinsed. I don't apply a lot of downward pressure. My first commercial client after starting my business has a fleet of F-250 4x4 trucks that requires something like this. It beats climbing up and down as often off of my platform. We also have 3 of these crew cab trucks in the family with one being a Harley-Davidson crew cab in black. No problems so far with the boars hair brush. I haven't had a chance to use on what I would consider extremely soft paint as of yet.

Oh well if I would have found one for $20.00 then that would have left me the other money I would have spent on something I really didn't need. Got a bad habit of doing that at Home Depot. PLUS I enjoy their FREE coffee. I even stop by there for a cup on the way home or heading into town.

I have one of these, too. I totally agree that you have to let it soak for a while before using it. First time out I scratched my car up something terrible. Now, I use it for big things and ones I'm about to buff out. It makes washing go much faster in situations like that. For normal washing, I only use my Wookie.

Oh, one other thing, after using it, it will smell like the boar it came from....decaying. So make sure to dry it in an open area far from your house!!

IF I ever see it on sale - ah heck, even if it's not on sale, I'm going to buy another one. When I detail I like to have everything fairly close to me so I'm not waisting time walking all over the place. I have a great detailing cart (three shelves) on wheels, electrical power strip and all other applicable things one needs.

So now having this super neat little ladder, I will be able to have one on each side of the vehicle and won't have to be dragging it around.

This ladder could be a little taller though. When I bought it at HD, I noticed another ladder that folds up like this one and it's roughly a foot higher. However it does not have the working platform on it. It's like any other ladder where you have "steps" to climp on but it does fold into the same position. One surely can't be balancing himself on something like this so I am thinking about buying one for a test project. Going to buy enough 2x6 or 2x8 boards. Cut them to length so each end will wind up meeting a step on the ladder, take a couple of "U" bolts, drill through the boards and then insert the U bolts through those holes, around the steps, attach washers and a nut and snug them up tightly - there, I have a "walk on" platform.

This ladder is about 3' longer than the smaller one which will give me more "walking" room. The downside to this would be more "weight" to be moving. But if this test project works I will build another one for the other side of the vehicles. I have more than enough room in my shop to also have the detailing cart right where I want it, regardless of which ladder I use.

I hate having any kind of an electrical cord hanging over my shoulder even though I have the Micro/Fiber detailing apron, the cord is attached in two places. However, it's still behind me or at the minimum, off to my right side. I've tripped over to many cords in my life and with these ladders, it's going to require a couple of extra feet of cord. So yesterday I installed two electrical outlets directly above my detailing area. Bought two trouble shooting lights that are on a retractable coil. Cut both of the lights off the ends and attached plug-ins on each one. Now when I'm detailing a roof or a big hood, I just plug in either my Flex or PC and have total control as to the length of the cord.

I have eight, 8' heavy duty (dual bulb) fluorescent lights hanging from the rafters in my shop. However on the drivers side of any vehicle is what I call the darker side. So yesterday, while installing the trouble shooting lights, I installed one more of the fluorescent lights. So now I have a perfect 360 degree lighted area.

Speaking of those ladders. All my detailing is done in my shop with the exceptions of washing. So I just ordered one of those pre-fabed metal sheds, fully enclosed with doors on both ends and insulated. Going to have one end built right up to the existing shop overhead door. This way I can drive a vehicle through the one end door, keeping the one door going into the shop closed. I can then just wash the vehicle or clay and wash, use my air drying machine, completely dry it and then take it right into the shop. With either of these ladders, depending on how tall the vehicle is, I can use my two bucket wash buckets by sitting them on the ladder/s and use my wash mit to clean the roofs.

Just think, all of this started over me getting the info, on the ladder, off of the forum. Sure hope somebody posts more great information like the ladder. One can never stop improving his "man cave." I would absolutely love to have a vehicle lift built right in the pre-fabed shed so I could start thoroughly cleaning the undersides.

After I detailed my first Mercedes and Chevy truck and then the same with the 2012 Mercedes and the new Ram truck, ALL my neighbors are throwing some serious "hints" about me detailing their vehicles. However, NO money was ever mentioned. Funny how that works.
