Had knee surgery yesterday... Out of work for a bit, cant do anything but be a couch potato and watch tv or go on my macbook...

Somebody help!!! I'm going nuts

Haha know exactly how you feel. Had my acl done about 2 months ago. I think all of my posts on this forum are from the last 2 months :) So what did you have done?

During a recess, five orthopedic surgeons from different areas of the Country, who were attending a Conference whose topic was: "Best Patients for Surgery", started comparing who they considered made the best surgery candidates.

-The first surgeon, from New York, says, 'I like to see accountants on my operating table, because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered.'

-The second, from Chicago, responds, 'Yeah, but you should try electricians! Everything inside them is color coded.'

-The third surgeon, from Dallas, says, 'No, I really think librarians are the best, everything inside them is in alphabetical order.'

-The fourth surgeon, from Los Angeles chimes in: 'You know, I like Auto Detailers ... those guys are always clean and polished'.

-But the fifth surgeon, from Washington, DC shut them all up when he observed: 'You're all wrong! Politicians are the easiest to operate on. There's no guts, no heart, no balls, no brains and no spine, and the head and the ass are interchangeable!

(PS...Hope you have a successful recovery...)

Well, I had a tear in the meniscus, and then my orthopedist cleared out debris and smoothed out cartilage. Its my right knee, so I can't drive until its basically fully heeled. With my luck, i'd need to slam my brakes!

Thanks for the laugh! Thats good stuff

Since you have the time, how about reading every single forum thread? You can give us a book report when you are all finished. Seriously, get the required rest and don't push yourself out the door too soon. Get well!

I'm reading a lot of stuff. I usually tend to never post anything, but did a lot today. I don't know if thats your dog in your avatar, but I have a Siberian Husky, and I feel terrible he cant play with me in the snow! We got like 6 inches today... If its your dog you know how energetic the breed is.

Recovery can definitely be a drag. I have had acl and meniscus repaired in each knee. So I feel your pain!

Hope you get through your recovery without going bonkers, I know how you feel. I had multiple fusion spine surgery several years ago that failed to accomplish the desired result. I had to retire early and I go nuts every now and then not being able to do the things I had always enjoyed doing. I have a couple of friends who had knee surgery and now they feel better then ever so keep your chin up and you'll up and around in no time. Good luck with your recuperation.

How long are you out?

A little over a wk ago I injured my knee playing basketball. Basically buckled on me. Haven't gone to the doc as I don't want to hear the word surgery :( my wife (physical therapist) thinks its a sprained mcl or possible torn meniscus :(

Good luck on recovery

I have a husky as well, they're nuts in the snow! Can' get her back in the house.

I had me meniscus done a while back on my other knee. First 2 weeks of PT SUCK! It does heal up pretty quick. You'll at least be up and around the house in just a few weeks. Good luck.

I've ripped up my right knee a couple times in big motorcycle accidents before I finally lost my leg when my boat ran over me, here's what I know... let your knee and all the muscles, ligaments and tendons heal slowly and correctly before you put it back into use.

You need your knees/legs so much in life that until you lose one or the use of one you'll never know just how valuable they are...

So stay down, heal slowly, heal correctly.

Hang in there...

:)

Glad to hear the surgery went well and you are healing. I suggest getting an Xbox 360, pick up Call of Duty 3, and join me, Ted, and Keith on Thursday nights...Ted usually kicks off a lobby.

Only took a week to respond!!

But I cannot agree more. The knee is such an important joint, and having bad knees really affects your life. When at work, I am limited, when being a 'Weekend Warrior' I have to pace myself. I'm 20, and have already had 2 knee surgeries now, and the Orthopedist told me I'd probably have to suffer replacements by my 30's.

-Glad to hear your 'up and around', even though you may not be 'kickin-it' too high yet.

-Just a friendly reminder/suggestion: Orthopedists...Get 2-3, or even more "second opinions". Some of them are more 'money-hungry' than others.

Case in point:

-Recently, a friend of mine that voluteers at the local Area Agency for the Aging related this rather grim story to me.

-She was looking after/taking care of an 85 year-old Lady that was really despondent over the recent loss of her husband. She had decided that she would just kill herself and join him in death. Thinking that it would be best to get it over with quickly, she took out his pistol and made the decision to shoot herself in the heart, since it was badly broken in the first place.
-Not wanting to miss the vital organ and become a vegetable and a burden to someone, she called the Orthopedist (that had performed a recent, and successful hip replacement surgery for her) to inquire as to just exactly where the heart would be on a woman.
-The Orthopedist said, "Your heart would be just below your left breast".

-Just seemed too ironic that, later that night, that same Orthopedist just happened to be 'on-call' as this dear old Lady was admitted to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her knee.

To the OP, Mike McDonald: Keep your chin up, my good man!

Hey Mike,

If it's any consolation you'd be surprised to hear how many of us have been right where you are today.. If you're active any time a sedentary lifestyle intervenes it's a huge adjustment for a short period. "I felt your pain"....

My orthopedist actually is my 2nd opinion. The first guy I went to numerous times a few years ago, telling me "It's nothing".

The doctor I have now, who I must say is awesome, real nice guy, very straightforward, explained exactly what was wrong, had x-rays, MRI's done to find the exact problem. He found it, recommended surgery but told me I could go the cheaper route with some Cortisone injections.

I did the Cortisone, (Copay $2000 for surgery, yikes!!). That didn't work, but he ended up doing a magnificent job on my left knee, and until recently, after two years, I've had no pain.

Anyone in MA, or Southern NH, I recommend Dr. Malone Merrimack Valley Ortho. He is the man!!
