When compounding with say 105....how many times do you reload per panel?

I know that the idea is to go over each panel as few times as possible to get the desired results.

But on average....how many times do you go over an entire car with your compound? I read about these 35 hour or 3 day correction details....Obviously in cases like this you're going over certain panels of the car 2-3-4-5+ times with compound.

When you guys do a detail with say 105/205 or Menz PG how many times do you hit each panel with compound on a decently hard clear?

When I did my dads Corvette, I hit each panel twice with about 4-5 section passes each time.

Hopefully you only have to do one section pass to each section. Do some testing and after making 6-8 section passes to one section about 18 to 20 inches squarish or so, wipe off the residue and inspect the results.


What tool and pad are you using
What are you working on?

I normally use 4-5 section passes. The first 3-4 are with pressure. and the last 1-2 with light to no pressure allowing the pad to spin and work the remainder of the product. Since 105 is a non diminishing product, make sure you wipe the panel clean before reloading the pad with new product or switching to different. You can also spritz the panel with a fine mist of water to work the last few section passes or reactivate the product if required.

The key here is to create a test section(I can't emphasize this enough) tape off a small section and see how the product reacts with the pain. You might not need 4-5 or you could need 6-8.. Let the test section dictate your approach to the remainder of the car.

Too funny. what's interesting is that my comments about the test section came from Mike's class 3 years ago at Detail fest. I'll never forget him saying let the test area dictate your approach to the car..Kudo's to Mike for being consistent 3 years later.
