Right knee has been hurting for a few months...

Folks,

Made it through the surgery and started rehab today. The doctor even gave me a DVD of the surgery.

The tear was not that bad and the affected section was removed and edges dressed. There was some cartilage damage as well. From what I understand the weak section was removed and then he drilled into the bone marrow above and the stem cells will help generate a new section.

Full recovery will be about 4 to 4.5 months, which really sucks.

Glad everything went well. My understanding was the meniscus won't heal or "regenerate" because it has no blood supply, I've never heard of "drilling into the bone marrow"--sounds terrible!! Get better, man!

For you guys with knee or issues, do you have any idea as to what may have caused it?

Surely its not from standing on your knees polishing.

When they say 4 months they mean 4 months. Lots of ppl get to feeling better after a few weeks and start doing more then they should. Don't do that

Again, if I can help you with anything let me know. I'm just around the corner

It definitely doesn't help. Wear knee pads or get an old foam cushion or otherwise you will need knee surgery

Glad it went well. I am sitting here typing with an ice pack on my knee. I twisted my knee playing basketball a few wks ago and I need to go to the doc but have been putting it off as I know it is going to require surgery :(. My wife is a PT and there is no therapy to fix a torn meniscus.

I can promise you mine is workout related. When I am at the gym I hit it hard. I am not a big guy (160lbs soaking wet) but for my size I am (or at least act like I am) an animal in the gym and push myself hard hard and more hard.

When I started feeling my pain was when I was doing sets with 400lbs on the squat rack. I know thats not a tremendous amount to some, but to me, for a guy of my size, thats not too light of a weight to be doing working sets with.

I am going to a doctor on monday to find out the results of the MRI but from what my sister and brother-in-law tell me (both doctors) the gibberish that is on the paper I need to give the doctor says I have an inflammation and no tear. I guess thats good but I have no idea how they are going to treat it? Since this thread is still going I hope the OP does not mind but I would like to update you all on my progress as well.

Are you quarter/half squatting or parallel or atg?

I cannot squat due to some wierd issue with my left hip. But everything I have is read is that full squatting atg is very good for the knee and half/quater squatting isnt.

Tundra, be careful with the heavy weight. I am a former competitive powerlifter. I blew out my right pec a couple of years ago. The heavy bench pressing did me in. I am not sure of your age, but always warm up and listen to your body.

If your MRI is normal, it would be inflammation/tendonitis. You may have to back off and do lighter weights for higher reps for a while.

Dave, good luck with the knee surgery recovery. Keep up with the PT and you will be back to detailing soon enough.
