Buying a new car...not a fun experience! **WARNING!! I RAMBLE IN WRITTING**

hopefully you find something you want soon, and please posts pics when you do...

Most certainly!!

It looks like the navigation comes as part of a $2000 technology package. IMO, with the other goodies in that package, the $2000 isn't that bad. If you can swing the little bit extra it will add to your payments, it's worth it. I have nav in my G37S and pricey as the option is, it's well worth it and I never think of it as money I shouldn't have spent. Built in just works better and is more convenient IME, and it's ALWAYS there, always charged. Not to knock a Tom Tom, in fact prior to my G, I ran tom tom on my palm treo in a gps cradle for a couple of years and it was perfectly functional. Stand alone is fine and gets the job done if you've got no other option. Built in works better and is worth the expense if you do.

Seriously, pay consumer reports the $40, print out reports on hyundai and competing cars, and use their new car buying service. You'll know what a good price is and you specify what you want and the dealers bid for your business. Just don't let the dealers' internet sales guy know you've already dealt with another salesman at *that* particular dealer because they might not want to honor the deal then. My wife made that mistake with a Kia dealer.

I don't envy that you are firmly set on a particular model of a high volume car that's in particularly high demand that you are determined to get rock bottom pricing on. But I certainly wish you the best of luck!! :xyxthumbs:

I definitely hear you on the features being well worth the money, but I didn't want it from the start and I know that's the way the car is being mass produced (with Nav). I think after telling me that they found the car, they would have had it by 3-13 or 3-14, and by today (3-16) I would be in the car, that they should give a little. I never haggled with them on the price, or the price of the trade in. Now, for the BS your pulling, do something to make it right.

Where do I find the Consumer Report info for $40? Any links?

Update on this thread..

I was dealing with the salesman for about 2 weeks now, and everything became a mess. First he promised a black on black Elantra, then 3 days later, I had to change my interior color. So I told him to get the black on beige. He said not a problem. 3 days went by and he called me and told me that he just got a USED 2011 Sonata in, black on black with navigation for the same price. I decided to stick with the new Elantra instead of buying a used car (mainly for warranty reasons and I didnt like that it had 15k on it). He then called me 2 days later saying he couldn't find the black on beige. I asked him "What can you find? Because it seems that you cant find anything." He said "Well I am going to have to look harder I guess". This was my cue to GTFO of the deal. So I went to a different dealership with the paperwork. They had the black on beige, and threw in the navigation unit at no extra charge!! :xyxthumbs: So I picked the car up last night. Its just an amazing feeling getting into a car with 6 miles on it! I am staring at it through my office window and all I can think about is its first bath!

Its really amazing how one dealership can be such a PITA, when another dealship, its a no hassle promise. He said he had it, got it, cleaned it, drove it away! Thats the way it should have been from the begining!

Sorry for the picture..it was from my cell phone while at the dealership. I will try to get a couple more when I get home

You let him CLEAN it? That's Im the MAN

But in all seriousness, congrats on the car. There's something special about finding what you're looking for.

Great ending to the story. Congratulations.

End of month AND end of quarter were probably good reasons why they wanted to make a deal with you on the Nav. That coupled with a 2013 Elantra coming out sometime between April and June was another factor. Timing is everything; and sometimes you just have to go through the process.

is tint in order?

Congrats on finding your car. Buying a vehicle can be one of the most frustrating things to do.

Your initial frustration could have been avoided if, the salesperson knew what they were doing, and the management had a different 'style', and I use that term loosely.

Salespeople only do what they're are trained to do. And honestly, most training at car dealerships is laughable. I know, I sold cars for a few years.

The internet department ruined it for me. Here I was expected to sell the exact same product for close to sticker, i.e. hold gross, but the dorks upstairs could ##### it out for whatever below invoice.

Worst. Business. Model. Ever.

If everyone bought their cars through the internet dept., pretty soon you would go to a warehouse, test drive a demo, and wait for 3 weeks while your vehicle came from a storage location. Me personally after selling cars you couldn't pay me to buy a new car. That 'new car feeling' gets the buyer all 'ethered up' and they're sold. It's fleeting though, but you already knew that.

I still laugh at the guy who got rid of his 7 series bmw and paid $30k for a fully loaded Kia Optima. I didn't have the heart to tell him he still has a Kia at the end of the day.

Oh, you said you were a salesman, what do you sell?

Yes very much so. I actually just purchased LEDs for the dome, map, vanity, trunk and license plate lights. So that will change the interior a bit. And after that, tints and the LEDs, their isnt much to do. Its not like its Mustang or a Corvette. Its an Elantra.

I do believe that that had a lot to do with it. Also, we bought two cars from them. My father probably could have paid less for his, but since he paid the price he did, they gave me the nav.

You are exactly right! I work for Allstate Insurance Company. Although they never gave us a sales seminar or training session, its up to the agent to teach us or hire someone with sales experience. Tell the guy in the Optima story that I have a piece of the Brooklyn bridge if he wants to purchase it

just bought (for the nephew) a 2013 hyundai elantra limited (without the tech package) and got close to four grand off msrp and the transaction went smooth without any deception from the salesman and the staff were really nice as well (got it with the plastic still on the hood, roof and boot and also with no holes drilled in the front for the plate as i advised them not to do, as well as not to wash too). there were a few things accessories i didn't care for and they didn't charge us for it) it's nice to have the internet these days to do most of the work for you without having to trade back and forth for hours in person. so far i have to say it's a very nice car!
