best procedure for colorchip?

I plan on opti-coating my car once my shipment arrives next week.

I am wondering on how I should prepare. I have a color chip kit and I want to use it before I opti-coat, I also want to polish my car to get the best finish prior to opti-coating.

I am wondering if I should polish first then color chip or color chip first and then polish?

I am hoping to do this over the next few days while I wait for my shipment. How long do I have to wait before opti-coating with the frsh paint chips. Dr. Color chip's website says a week, but is it any different with opti-coat?

Maybe I am being overly cautious. My plan was to color chip, polish and then coat.

But according to their faq(just found it) it says I should do the polishing first. My thoughts were that the piece of fabric used to wipe off the excess paint is pretty abrasive. It will surely mar I would imagine? It says I need to wait a week before I can apply the opti-coat. So I will have to wash my car again before applying.

All I want to do is make sure no more marring is inflicted before the OC application. The order of things doesnt seem right.
 
Polish first, then do the dr colorchip.

And you should wait the week before applying the opti-coat to the colorchip areas.

You risk pulling the paint out of the areas that you used the dr colorchip if you polish after you apply it.
 
I would think the same thing as Jason said...polish first, wipe with IPA or-what I use-GG Paint Prep, and then Opti Coat. There's been alot of talk about Opti-Coat and I'm starting to get interested in it.
 
That is exactly my procedure...polish, color chip, eraser or ipa then Opti Coat.
 
I would say any light marring introduced by the colorchip wipe could probably be removed by hand after the paint has cured.
 
so to be safe, how long should you wait after applying touchup
 
To do what? According to their FAQ I should wait a week before waxing.

Thats part of what bugs me. I want to polish my roof, try to not install any marrying from buffing away excess colorchip paint and then wait a week then wash and then opti-coat.
 
Remove defects from paint
Use prep spray on chips to make sure hey are completely oil free
Dr. Colorchip
Wait a few weeks if possible
Finish polish or jewel the paint
Apply coating to oil free and clean surface
 
Thats a good idea.
That way I can remove any marring from removing the exess paint and if any marring comes from washing before application.

Hey Corey....I end up scratching my head alot when I see folks who apply sealant or wax, or even do a final polish after a few weeks. Wouldn't waiting reintroduce contaminants to the paint surface, especially if you drive the vehicle?

Man this is getting overly complicated. It would be easier if I skipped the color chip step.

But I have rock chips and if I am going to seal with OC, they must be filled prior or I wont do it. It will bug me too much.
 
Not trying to take over this thread, just don't want to start a new one for a similar situation question.
What about doing OptiCoat around the Dr.CC and then coming back in a week or so and coating the rest of the panel where the paint was applied?... Just don't want to leave such large areas unprotected for a week or more. Thanks.
 
I did introduce some marring on my soft black Subaru paint using Dr. Colorchip. Be careful. It does make the car look better though!
