Retro Detroit Muscle

I like the whole retro muscle cars for sure but what I'd like to see is "right size" muscle cars, the current cars are waaaaaaay to big, the Mustang doesn't seem to be as large but when you see one next to a 65' though, well, it too is big.

I think they should make an attempt at a current muscle car, something all new or a "twist" on something, like a current Grand National. It would have the current 3.6 V6 (ironically) and use a single turbo (again, how ironic) but instead of the slushbox, use a 6 spd (I'm sure a 6AT could be offered) The suspension would have to go around corners and stop too.

The last GTO I thought was a great car, they should've stuck with that and built on it, actually that could've been my dream Grand National for sure, although a little nip tuck would be in order to trim down some weight.

Great thread guys, keep it going!

AMX, don't know who would build it, probably Chrysler..... Hmmmmmm
SRT/AMX

I agree.

AMX and Javelin

I buffed out one of these back in Oregon in the early 1990's, it was the real deal, a 1969 AMX SS former drag strip car fully restored.

Great thread Richard...

:xyxthumbs:

I'd like to see the comeback of the fullsize RWD sedan.. A la Charger! The new Caprice PPI could be a great Impala SS instend of the boring FWD (but beautiful) new '13 or '14 model. A new Fairlane/Galaxie/Falcon based off the australian Falcon would be cool. Sadly Mercury is dead... I'd love to see a Marauder back!

The 69' esque Trans Am is hideous to me, the 70' esque is a little better.

Sex sells right....not in this case

^^ The problem here is you get the gen 1 and gen 2 styles fused together, just doesn't work IMO.

The Camaro and Lemans had nothing in common, thus this makes no sense to me:doh:

could not agree more. i am a huge Ford guy but my second favorite car is the GN. those are jusr freaking sweet rides. i also liked the "new" GTO's as well and wished they hung on. And yea these carsare to dang big. my 88 and 89 Mustang were both only like 3200lbs when i bought them. light weight suspension parts and body panelsgot me down to like 2800lbs. which when racing that turns into about .3-.4 seconds faster in 1/4 mile. these new "muscle cars" are way over 4000lbs. both my 80's Stang ran 11.7-11.9's and still only had 4:10's in there rear exhaust system and new suspension and fiberglass body panels. so they only had around 300 horse at flywheel about 250ish at wheels. which puts me 100hp less but i still ran .5 second faster

I think your Stangs had more than 250 whp to run high 11's for sure, even at a guessed weight of 2800 lbs. The current hi-po Stangs actually weight 3900 lbs, so not really waaay over 4000 lbs but still, too much but then again, with all the do dads and safety equiptment there's no way around the weight I guess w/o the car costing alot more with everything being lighter weight.

3 letters say it all. The car that really defined the muscle car mevement "GTO"

You mean GTX...'67, and '68 to be exact. Who wants a 409 when they can have a hemi?

Just yanking your chain. I like GTO's as well.

Back in the late '80's and early '90's I made several comments to carbuff friends of mine that it would be nice to see the big three bring back some of their most prized auto's...bring them back with a new twist, better handling, better ride...you know...put today's technology into the suspension and what-not. I never dreamed they would actually do it, but I always knew that it would go over big. Now, where are my Royalty checks??????????

As much as I like some of the offerings I'd like to see them do this with trucks as well. 77-79 Fords, 78-79 and 84-87 Chevy's, PowerWagons from the good ol' days. I wouldn't mind to see them offer trucks even much older than that...just leave the fiberglass alone.

I'd also like to see Ford reproduce some of Fairlanes, Cougars, and Torino's of the day. However, I'd be satisfied with Buick GSX's in stage II, and stage III's as well.

alot of traction and a big gear will do it. there have been completely stock motor 87-93 mustangs with modified suspensions and huge gears running that fast and faster. just a little info i left out. back in the day when i had these stangs i also had my NHRA and NMCA liscenes. so i knew how to get every ounce of power from each car. now its been 10 years since then. could i do it now. HECK NO!!!!!!!!!! LMAO

Chevy plans to make the Camaro with a smaller body in 2015. I just hope they don't go 2000s gto small. Those were basically cavaliers with huge motors in them. Sure they were fast, but they lacked the body lines and looks of a true muscle car.

Also love the idea of a modern-day GN, but make sure it's a 3.8 liter V-6 to match the engine of yesteryear. I had an '87 Turbo T Limited for a few years and it was a blast.

Didn't the 2000's GTO's weigh about 3800 lbs? Those cars were porkers. I too am hoping the next-Gen Camaro on the ATS platform shrinks a few feet in size and loses about, say, 800+ lbs!

The 2004-06 GTO's were not small cars at all, not sure what your talking about:dunno: Not only that but they did tip the scales around 3800 lbs too and looked nothing like a Cavalier.....

This is my buddies 442 that he did a frame-up resto on when we were in college. That retro version has the same color scheme and reminded me of it.

If you look closely there is a blue 68 442 next to it, thats his best friends dad's, my other buddy from college.
