Retro Detroit Muscle

This is my buddies 442 that he did a frame-up resto on when we were in college. That retro version has the same color scheme and reminded me of it.

If you look closely there is a blue 68 442 next to it, thats his best friends dad's, my other buddy from college.

That's a nice 442 but that's NO 68' next to it, looks like a 66 or 67 GTO or another intermediate from GM.

You sir are correct. I am annoyed to have to admit that, but you are. I just tried looking up the mutual friend's facebook page but only has his own car on there not his dads. Went to his dad's page and privacy settings will not allow me to look at his pics. Went to google images and realized that rear glass is different. I just figured it was his since they generally travel to car shows together and his Dads 442 is identical color.

The guy who owns the 442 used to drag race it a lot, after several engines due to wanting to switch displacements, setups (ie he installed line-locks to properly heat rear tires), and fuel types (and the addition of large shots of nitrous) his need for speed continually grew. So he decided to retire this car as a cruiser and bought a new toy strictly for the strip, has been working on it for quiet a while and so far seems to be meeting his needs quiet nicely, I believe he is building a new engine for this one as he just posted a crank and piston on his facebook page that will equal a displacement of 491...

His 1966 Nova, and I cannot remember for the life of me if this is when they called it a Chevy II or if its actually a Nova. lol

^^ I believe that Chevy switched to the name Nova in 1969, I've seen Chevy II on 68's, so the above drag car is a Chevy II, love those small shoeboxes!!!

Since I have totally highjacked this thread I might as well show you my buddy's dad's car. You saw both his, this is what the old man drives...

There is a little ribbon on the rear view mirror that says "Open me up I'm a sleeper"

This is a 1964 Chevy Biscayne. Love love love this car. 3 inch pipes and very modest tips that can barely be seen on the rear end sound heavenly when this thing is pushed.

What are the stats on the drivetrain of the sleeper, even the color is sleeper!

^^ Unfortunately I do not know a whole lot. I know it does have a 427 in it and I know that it can run mid-high 13s in the quarter and its an auto. Other then that, again I am sorry I know little else.

Never saw this one in person but I think this is mom's ride...

Remember the other buddy I was talking about? The one with the dad with the 68 442? This is his ride Pontiac Ventura... Not sure now but at the time when he just finished it, it had a 455 in it. I am sure he has since put something bigger as that dude loves to go all out on and crazy.

The Nova and the Pontiac were actually selected to be on Pinks all out a couple years ago. I rarely get to talk to my friends as they no longer live near me and we all have our own lives so I am not sure what came out of it, if they were ever on the show, etc.

Is it the 427 based off of the 409 or the 427 BB?

Since we both derailed the thread a bit I'll try and get it back on the tracks with this, this concept car is what I think the "future muscle car" could and should be......

chevrolet-code-130r-concept-detroit.jpg

The size and proportions are there, longer hood, short deck and would probably weigh about 3200 lbs too (ofcoarse less would be even better but with today safety and what not, that's a pipe dream). This particular car is RWD, so that's intact as well. Don't really know anything else about the car but with the current parts bin, well, it should be NO problem installing the VVT 3.6L V6 into with the base 315 hp engine, then add a blower or better yet, turbo to the mix to boost the power up to 375 hp or so, mate it to a 6 spd tranny and LSD rearend spinning 3.55-3.73 gears, that would alot of fun. This would be a modern muscle car, nothing wrong with the retro thing but at some point you've gotta move forward and not dip into the past all the time for inspiration, IMO anyways.

I could not tell you what the engine was based off. That is beyond my knowledge of that car. I have a fascination with all cars so as my knowledge is good its not great and details like that are really hit or miss with me.

I totally agree with you on the retro/fresh pallet sorta thing. I too believe that the past should be left in the past. One or 2 here or there is OK, and I think I get why they are doing it with all these iconic cars. The baby boomers who once loved these cars when they were younger more then likely can now afford a nice mid-life crisis or retirement toy. Now these are coming back and BAM... blast from the past.

Your right on another account too.. back on track with this thread lol. I have stolen enough pics and taken this thread to somewhere else.

No biggie Tundra, I'm sure people understand and besides, it says retro muscle and it was bound to happen. Here's an old name that was brought back....too bad its not BROUGHT up and over here though!

These cars have the graffics and colors like the late 60's/early 70's muscle cars. IIRC these cars came with both turbo'd inline 6's as well as awesome Ford V8's! Muscle is out there, just gotta bring it over and let me tell you this, if Ford goes through with the 4 door Mustang and not just get these cars over here instead, I'll lose ALOT of respect for them, they're on a roll right now and that idea just doesn't make sense or cent$!

NO BRAINER HERE...TAKE THIS CAR, ADD THE 650 HP COBRA ENGINE AND CALL IT TERMINATOR!!!

How mean is that thing!

^^ Your exactly right, the european markets (maybe more) have had the "better" focus for years now and we were stuck with the ugly delinquent stepchild version. Now we have that, they brought over the fiesta, the new mustang that came out here. I think a 4-door mustang would be awesome and would be a good shot to go after BMW and Mercedes. Alas I think some would disagree and think it blasphemy because the mustang is a "2-door" car. I agree though and that car looks really sharp. It could easily be on competition with the c63 sedan and the standard 2-door boss mustang against the c63 coupe. Brute nasty power... ahh, love it!

Up to 362 hp...straight 6 w/turbo and IIRC its a 4.0L:dblthumb2:

No need for a 4 door Mustang when you have the Falcon "down under", just bring "up over", LOL. Really, does anyone wanna see this.....

Get my point!

With some thought and an eye for what actually looks good, you can make a traditional 2 door look good, see.....

^^ This is the way you DON'T do it ^^

Now THIS was the right way they did it, just pulled the plug on the brand too soon!
