I am looking at purchasing a Griots polisher but noticed that it says 6" and I know everyone on here says to go with the LC CCS 5.5" does that mean I will have to get a 5.5" backing plate to use the 5.5 CCS pads?? Or a 5" backing plate?
Feed back please

Lucky for you...

I wrote this article and took the pictures for it last Friday the 13th :D

I just use the 6.5" pad and that works for me.

The Griot's has enough power to use 6.5" pads for sure, plus if you use "Griot's" brand pads the are thinner and that also enables the Griot's polisher to better be able to maintain pad rotation under pressure.

My article is just a reference article because I see this topic come up all the time and we're heading into the major portion of the car washing and waxing season...

:)

Man Mike you just have all the answers to my questions this morning! :urtheman:

What would you recommend for somebody that has never used a polisher before? 5.5 or the 6.5's, I plan on practicing on a used hood or fender before I move onto my brand new car lol.

For practicing either would work, you can practice maintaining pad rotation like you see when I'm working on the 1949 Packard in this video...

Note the black line on the back of the backing plate and the speed and firm downward pressure I apply to the buffing had. Also note how I roll the body of the tool to match the curve of the fender.
