The most over-rated products?

I really feel that chemical guys blacklight and chemical guys V7 are extremely over-rated for what they are supposed to do...I know alot of people are fans of the combo in parts but I bought the entire kit when it started being sold as a LSP...blacklight is a glaze and v7 is a halfway decent spray detailer/sealant...

Have to disagree here.

BL is a versatile product, no matter how you use it. You want an AIO? How about a Glaze/LSP? BL answers the bell for all of those uses. Great product, and a little bit goes quite a way!

V7 is an extremely affordable spray sealant that can hang with the best of em! Buy it in a gallon size and you'll be set on spray sealants for years.

Big fan of the BL/V7 combo in case you haven't noticed!

To each their own...I practically gave my BL away and have been trying to get rid of V7 for almost 2 years now with no takers...

Never tried it, and would be willing to write a review on it if I had it, but if you really want to give it away.....
(I'll pay shipping) ;)

V7 is highly over rated. Good product though to say the least.

Thanks. What else do you prefer other than C 915 as your LSP?

I like BFWD, mainly for ease of use, slickness and that nice wet look, though it isn't the most durable product. Another product (not sold here) that I've had a good experience with is Bilt Hamber Finis wax.

Hmmmm... what is that red paint on? (As you may notice from my avatar, I'm driving "pull me over red" as well.) I tend to like it as bright as possible. It's weird because I'll see other G35's or 350/370Z's and think my red and their red don't match.

It's a Toyota Yaris. The red is pretty bright already - I feel that some products, like 845, make it look almost pinkish. Here's a shot of the car:

Seriously? lol who wouldn't want their car to be bright and reflective?

I would be one of those - I prefer my car's paint to have depth and that carnauba "glow", rather than the bright look of 845.

I don't like the bright and reflective look of Collinites that I have seen on a few dark colored cars. These were detailed by friends. I prefer the deeper, warmer look of OCW and other Nuba products without the so called "resins" and "solvents" that C845 comes loaded with. That's the same reason we top up sealants with either Nuba or Spray waxes, to get a deeper gloss than the plasticky shine.

Agree - and I like OCW too, with regards to how it also has a carnauba look.

I also prefer the look of a wax, as waxes have a warm glow, which makes the car look rich.

I think that all Concours show cars have wax on them, and not sealant, because too bright and reflective a shine detracts from their richness.
Because waxes have a translucent appearance, they tend to diffuser the light slightly, which gives a glow, rather than a sealant, which is more crystal clear, and transmits the light more directly, and thus imparts a more reflective appearance.

Maximum reflectivity is not always the most desired trait, because it makes it more difficult to see the shape of the car.

Well said - exactly what I look for with my car.

845. I know lots of people love it, but it just doesn't look good on my car and my girlfriends car. I gave mine away to a friend. I use glasur or 5050 on our cars now.

Most of us who love it, love it for its durability, not looks. 845 gets us through harsh winters at a great price. Its almost unmatched for winter protection.

I've always used Z2 Pro to get me through Michigan winters but decided to give the Duragloss 105/601 combo a try this season after reading how durable it is. I'll be switching back to Z2 very soon.

I don't think 105/601 is as durable as people say it is either, but I did get a coat to last 4 months before I got bored and put another coat down. 105 definitely helps with the durability too IMO. I just don't think topping it with AW of DG FCS after every wash is a true measure of durability.

105 is a whopping 10 bucks for a nice sized bottle. You can't hardly beat that for value! I think it looks great too. I would almost swear that 105 and ZAIO are the same product.

As for Zaino, I wouldn't call them over-rated,but rather over-hyped and over-priced. Zaino makes VERY nice products, but DG is similiar and way cheaper. The only Zaino product I didn't really care for is their Z10 leather cleaner. It smells great, but it doesn't seem to last very long

I did a half and half on the hood of my Ford Edge just before winter. It's very easy to tell that the Z side is holding up waaay better. I'm still gonna use up the DG on a few other vehicles but just placed an order for some more Z2. $15.00 for the Z2 is not bad at all. I like the look of 105 but winter durability is always my #1 concern.

Interesting about the DG 105/601 comments. I got 9 months durability out of one application on a daily driver. The car stays in a garage at night but outside all day, driven 40 minutes one way to work, went through touchless wash about every 2 weeks. At 9 months the front bumper and deck lid were dead but the rest released water very well. When I attempted to remove it, I used CarPro Iron X, something like 8 ounces of CG citrus wash & gloss, and Optimum Power Clean.

Well I know this, after trying DG #111, 101 and AW, I see NO need to even buy Zaino ever again. I've also used DG #601 with #111 as well as #101 and feel it really helps in durability and as others have said, its cheap and available OTC (for those not placing an order anytime soon with AG) AW is probably one of the most amazing products out there. This product goes on easy and produces a great shine and I swear when you go back and look at the car 1/2 hr later it seems to look even better, you can even use it on glass and it leaves NO residue either.

Looking forward to trying DG #105 and #501 this spring for my complete spring clean-up, plan on using 100% DG products for the initial detail this spring (except clay bar-Griot's handles that)

On a daily, outside 24/7, a coating of 105 lasted from last July until this past weekend. The car was washed maybe three times with ONR in that time period. It just got washed and coated with 501 this time, just to see how long it lasts. Everything was applied by hand.

That's great to hear about #105 lasting that long, did you mix in #601 with it? Seems #501 has more cleaning agents in it so not sure how durable it is compared to #105, 101 or 111, I'll be watching and can't wait to do my full DuraGloss detail in the spring, thanks for the info!
