This week's project car...

Paul's 1965 Plymouth Valiant 100
This is a recent resto-rod with a new paint job but there are still holograms left from a wool pad on a rotary buffer. This is a great candidate for an "Extreme Makeover". It was originally a straight 6 but now it has a warmed-up 318 made to look like the 273 high performance engine that came in a 1965 Plymouth Barracuda Formula S. This is only the second paint job this car has ever had and there are only 42,000 original miles.

Spread the word...

To all the regulars that attend these projects, if you have any car buddies that know you're into the "detailing thing" and you know they're interested in learning more about detailing, invite them to attend.

Forward the link to this thread... or the e-mail I sent you...

Thanks!

You guys down there have all the fun.....

Mike count me in I promise to behave myself :xyxthumbs:

Great Adam, I've seen this car in person and it's really cool and it's going to be a fun project.

You should see some of the other cars coming up...

Mike's Ford Fairlane
This is a recent street/strip resto-rod with a 700+ Horsepower Engine that also has a recent black paint job that needs some expert paint polishing to create a true show car finish.

Ron's 1934 Chevy 3-Window Coupe
Ron's car was on our TV show and to most people it looks really nice but when Ron and I felt the paint it felt as rough as 80 grit sandpaper and has light swirls. It's a great candidate for a "Show Car Makeover"

Lew's 1947 Custom Chevy Roadster Pickup
Lew had his car on our TV show and we recently did an Extreme Makeover on the aluminum diamond plate bed but the paint has some swirls in it also.

And more....

Hi Mike, I'm there with the '65. Really looking forward to it.

Cool. I'm looking forward to working on your car and I'm confident you're going to find Autogeek to be a top notch organization.

Super cool. It will be good to see you again Steve, it's been fun watching you win awards with your 1969 Camaro Indy Pace Car!

Hi Mike, I'd like to stop by and visit!

Does it just have to be paint work related issues? I wouldn't mind picking the minds of the brain trust for some tips/techniques or product recommendations to enhance the shine on some polished aluminum wheels.

Hi Justin,

Most of what we do is create beautiful cars and since the paint is a HUGE part of the car that's what we mostly do.

Another reason is because I run into a lot of cool cars except the paint is all swirled out and you can't own a cool car with swirled-out paint.

I'm pretty good at polishing aluminum. All the wheels I've owned purposefully have been slotted mags because I like the way they look but also because it's a no-brainer.

You can work on solid aluminum.

As soon as you get a chrome or painted wheel you're working on a coating. Once something goes wrong with the coating most people can no longer work on the wheel.

Here's my article on restoring slotted mags, note these are "cheap" slotted mags, I own two high quality slotted mags and I'm always looking for their mates but people take these wheels to recycling plants for the cash so they're getting harder and harder to find. Plus they are for 16.5 size tires and most people don't drive vehicles that use this large of a tire and wheel any longer.
