Hey... Names David. I'm no professional, but I love cars and I take care of my own out of desire and nessecity. I havent found a good detailer ANYWHERE close to me since moving here 2 years ago. Closest guy is about an hour from me. I came here to look for tips for my own vehicle, but reading some of the threads... I might just start doing some work on the side.

I drive a BMW 550i that get's waxed once a month or so. It's Deep green and sooo pretty when its polished right.

Right now I use standard 'off the shelf' products to wash/wax my vehicle. I see lots of great tips and product recommendations on here... and am preparing my first Autogeek order soon.

I'm using a 50$ (be nice, I'm new) Run of the mill orbital buffer now. I typically use Maguiars products which I like... but I see some Collinite, Sonax and a Griots polisher in my near future. :)

I've been cleaning my own vehicles my whole life, except when it was time for that deep clean detailing, which I have never had the products or machinery to do my own.

If you were me, and looking to (at least to start off) detail just your own vehicles. What products or machines would you feel absolutley nessecary? As I mentioned, I could make this into something bigger than detailing my own cars... but I'd like to do it right, even if it's for myself.

Either way, I've gained ALOT of info in the past few weeks of snooping around here... look forward to learning alot more.

Hi David,

Over the years I've seen a lot of people post something like the above, first they get a DA Polisher and machine polish their car to be swirl free and then after that their family, friends and neighbors ask them but buff out their cars and without even trying they have a part time business going...

A great forum is above all helpful but it's nice when it's friendly and professional too...

:welcome: To Autogeek Online David!! :dblthumb2:

Basic steps in order are:

  • Wash
  • Clay
  • Paint Correction & Polish
  • Seal
  • Wax
An investment worth its weight in gold is a dual action polisher.

For starters I think you'll like the Meguiar's DA Microfiber Correction Kit below.

I prefer to put my own package together.

Here's some great information that will help you if you need it.

New to Machine Polishing?
