Hi all,

I am wondering whether to purchase a pre-wax cleaner.
1) How important are these products when preparing your car for a new coat of sealant/wax?

2) Do they replace IPA's? If not, what do you do first - use IPA and then the pre-wax cleaner or vice versa?

3) Do you clay the car before applying the pre wax cleaner?

4) Finally - Could anyone recommend a good non-abrasive (my Suzuki has very soft paint) pre-wax cleaner based on experience?

Sorry for all the noob questions...

Many thanks to all :)

My thoughts.

1. I think it is very important to use a pre-wax cleaner if you are not polishing and should following claying (if you clay). It will really add clarity to the paint if it has not been cleaned in a while especially if left outside and leave the paint properly prepared for a fresh coat of your favorite protection product.

2. IPA would be used if you want to avoid any filling properties caused by the paint cleaner that may hide swirls by design. If you do use it, use it after the paint cleaner.

3. Clay before.

Keeping the finish clean is important to keep it fresh and looking its best.

Basic steps to maintain the cars exterior in order are:

  • Wash
  • Clay
  • Paint Correction & Polish
  • Seal
  • Wax
Once your through applying and working the pre-wax cleaner there's no need to prep it further. I'm not saying you can't, there's really no harm in doing so other than these products tend to leave a little protection behind and you'll remove it.

These work well...

I am more awake now than I was when I posted the link. It doesn't answer the original question. Sorry. :-)

Except for Wolfgang (which I know is non abrasive), are these non abrasive as well? this is crucial to me since my Suzuki's paint is really soft.

And thank you for replying so quickly :)

1) How important are these products when preparing your car for a new coat of sealant/wax?- For maintenance use, for me this is not that important, but if you see that your paint surface is kind of dirty, but you don't want yet to polish your paint, this will do the job to clean the paint's surface before applying wax or sealant, but its not mandatory.

2) Do they replace IPA's? If not, what do you do first - use IPA and then the pre-wax cleaner or vice versa?- Yes I think if you use a pre wax cleaner, there will be no need to use an IPA.

3) Do you clay the car before applying the pre wax cleaner?- if you feel that the paint is rough, then claying would be better before applying the paint cleaner.

4) Finally - Could anyone recommend a good non-abrasive (my Suzuki has very soft paint) pre-wax cleaner based on experience? - Klasse AIO, Carlack 68 nsc. I am not quite sure if the following has no abrasives, the more experienced ones can correct me if i'm wrong, CG's EZ creme glaze & DJ's prime lite cleaner glaze. Here is a list of cleaners with mild abrasives, Prima amigo, DJ's pre wax cleanser polish, Sonax paint cleaner,

The first two I recommended are non-abrasive, these are non-abrasive as well.

Duragloss Total Performance Polish (TPP) # 105
Meguiar's M20 Polymer Sealant
Meguiar's Mirror Glaze #6 Cleaner/Wax

These contain very mild abrasives but will work well...

Awesome!

You guys are simply great! This helped me a lot.

Okay, now I have a different question :)

Does a non abrasive cleaner remove the sealant as well? Meaning, If I have two layers of sealant which I topped with a wax, will I lose the sealant layers along with the wax residue?

Thanks again!

What Suzuki do you have?

What Suzuki do you have?

Swift, why?
(please note that I live in Israel, and this make was manufactured in Hungary, I'm not sure if the paint job on Suzuki's which are sold in the USA are the same).

I just got a 2012 Suzuki kizashi sls in February of this year. Great car

Also I had a 08 sx4 sport. I never had any problems with paint being soft. I'm sure it's not as hard as other makes tho. As far as a paint cleaner it goes on after clayin and befor the sealant/wax. Or you could use KLASSE aio then top it with any wax you like

Do you know if the KAIO takes your sealant off along with the wax? I plan on putting 2 sealant layers, and then top with a wax. Since the wax will probaly last a much shorter time, I will need to replace it - if I use KAIO before putting the new coat of wax, will it strip my sealant as well?

yes it will remove everything. After you use it I would put your sealant on right afterward.
1. KLASSE 2. Sealant 3. Wax

I have the Wolfgang paint polish pre wax and I don't like it at all. It is a bear to remove and it just knda gums up. My understanding is however that it will remove any and all things on the paint and promote bonding of said wax/sealant. And yes it will remove sealant.
