Mike's Glass Cleaning Tips

Because most people do windows last; I have found it very helpful to thoroughly wash my hands before cleaning the inside windows.

I found that I was transferring products like leather conditioner and interior dressings to my glass towels, causing streaks.

I have the Glass Master Pro and really like it. I leave the fitted microfiber bonnet on it and lay a small clean microfiber towel over it instead of using multiple microfiber bonnets; it seems to speed things up for me.

I have been using this method and it has been working very well for me. Thank you for the tips.

On the windshield and the back glass I clean those in halves. It's easier concentrate on cleaning big windows in sections instead of taking on the whole thing at once. Even when the interior windows look good, I still give them a final wipe with a dry lint free paper towel. It will minimize the chance of leaving residual haze behind.

Just found this thread, good tips to follow.

Mine is as follows.

Wash with a good soap/APC then rinse well.
I have this long handle with a razor blade at the end of it, long handle makes it easier, I spray lots of lube and scrape the gunk off, you'd be surprised at what you remove.

Clean again using glass cleaner.
Spray more lube and clay well.

I then use viniger and water to clean the glass once more, helps remove some water spots.

For polishing I use my rotary, first with a compound, like UC or m105
working only 12x12 area at a time.
Then polish , again with my rotary at around 2000 RPM's using a white pad and m205.

Lastly I apply a sealant, whatever I have on hand.
It may not be the best method but works well for me:)

For years I've used a wool pad on the first step and get a little aggressive with it.
My wife always ask "why are you taking it this far , why not use Windex?"
She never understood the fuss. Lol

I also make sure to clean the wiper blade too, lots of gunk on them.

I clean the inside glass pretty much the same but all the polishing is by hand of course.

This is great information, however, would a "regular" microfiber waffle weave towel be a good substitute instead of buying a dedicated waffle weave for glass only?
I'm going broke trying to buy all the right products, but, don't want to short-change my work by using the incorrect products. *sigh*

Spend 6 bucks and buy a CarPro Fast Glass towel and a gallon of DI water. If there is any dirt on your window, clean it off with whatever waterless/rinseless/glass cleaner product you have lying around.

Then (or if there was no dirt from the get go - just streaks), wet the fast glass towel with DI water and wring it out as much as possible. Fold the towel in fours, and repeat on another side of the towel.

If you do that right, you will have perfect streak free windows everything time. The Fast Glass towel has no pile, so it tends not to leave "trails" or mountain chains of water behind. Using DI water means there will be no minerals left to dry on the glass and leave cloudiness or hazing.

It really works well. I forgot about glass waffle weaves and similar after buying these towels.

I failed to mention this is for my interior glass. I have the exterior down pat. what is DI water?

Deionized or ion free pure water. It's the stuff you buy in gallons to use in an iron. I never touch the windows inside of my car with anything but DI water and fast glass towels. That way there is never any cleaner residue or minerals on the windows to worry about.

Is distilled water the same thing? If not, where do you buy DI water?

For all intents and purposes for detailing purposes, there is no SIGNIFICANT difference between de-ionized or distilled water. They are basically interchangeable. You can get it by the gallon at any grocery or drug store.

How many Fast Glass towels to do the inside of a large(ish) 4 dr. sedan?

Thanks!! Can't tell you how glad I am to get this information. I am so disgusted with the "gunk" on the inside of my windows after spending over an hour on them and wearing out my 65 year old shoulders!! (getting' old ain't for sissies)

Just ordered the towels along with some anti-fog stuff that is supposed to last for 1 month... time will tell...... but, thanks again for the help.
