Incredibly Cheap Finds

Oh ok, I don't have that machine, but I have a DA. Don't they make something like this for a DA that replaces the backing plate? I'm picturing yellow and black bristles.

I never thought about using it on the tires though. That would be great since I feel like they never get clean. No matter what, my drying towel comes back with black spots, which is why I keep a separate one for the tires.

So I don't know if anyone would be interested, but I built my own pad washer. It functions just like the Grit Guard Universal Pad Washer, except I don't have that tiny, dome shaped grid extension.

Full disclosure, I got the idea from a thread I stumbled across on another website, but the guy didn't provide many measurements or a thorough parts list. I had to recreate it mainly from his pictures.

The thread has a lot of views but only 27 replies, and I haven't seen the particular DIY pad washer posted anywhere else (believe me, I've looked), so it's probably not getting the attention it deserves. I feel like I should spread the word, help out the guy that came up with it and anyone who wants to recreate it.

If you guys are interested I can put together instructions. I'll have to take mine apart to take some measurements and pictures (really regretting not documenting the build as I went), and then I'll post it here. I know it's technically a DIY, not a "deal," but it sure beats spending $130 on a bunch of molded plastic. If I was going to do that, I'd get the Lego Millennium Falcon. :xyxthumbs:

And I'll of course source the original thread; this guy deserves a ton of credit.

:buffing:

Awesome! I didn't even know they had one specifically for tires. I was thinking of using the carpet brush [that I'm pretty sure exists] on the tires, but this is way better. And it's small! I was hesitant to use the alleged carpet brush since it's bigger and would be hard not to touch the wheels. Thank you!

Edit: Ok, ignore everything in red lol. I actually read instead of just looking at pictures, so now I know that is an upholstry brush. I do think the carpet brush I saw was bigger, so this is still much better. And I always know I can trust Mike. Thanks again man!

Yep that brush that I showed in the first link will work too; the Cyclo is a dual 5/16-24 threaded DA Polisher and chances are your DA is a 5/16-24 thread pattern as well.

Works great!

Just was at a dollar store the other day and found flat microfiber cloths for two bucks each. They work great for wiping off compound and swirl remover.

I'd be interested in seeing the pics and how much you spent putting together this DIY project.

I really gotta start reading these things lol. Thanks!

+3 also I'd Interested in the supplies and tools necessary.
Add me to the list also! :dblthumb2:
I'll throw my name on the list also

Ok clearly there is interest in this haha. I'll take it apart and put some instructions together this weekend. I think I'll post it in a new thread, then link to it here.
What would be the appropriate place to post the instructions?

I'd be interested in seeing the pics and how much you spent putting together this DIY project.

That is actually going to be the difficult part. Once I have an inventory of what I used I'll price it out, but you guys should be able to do it for less than I actually spent since you'll have exact instructions. There was some trial and error involved, so I ended up with extra stuff.

I was at Target last night and they have the Meg's White Wax and the Meg's Black Wax on clearance in the auto section for $4.62. It doesn't show up online that they even carry it, so it must be on the way out.

Aw that sucks I grabbed a white for that price but I really wanted a black wax. It's still $10. It's got more polishing and less cleaning. Both are great products though

I'm fairly frustrated today. I recently purchased my steamer from Harbor Freight. I have tracked the price of that thing and other than the standard 20/25% off coupon, it's never been on sale. I have seen some Inside Track Club coupons, but they were not better than the 25 off. So, last week, I paid 119-25%+7% tax, $95.50...

Today, I look for the manual online to see it's max amps for an extension cord, and it's $99.99! so, it would have been $99-25%+7%, 80.25 out the door.

Yes, it's only $14.50, but that's 15% of the cost of the item. Frustrated!

But if you don't have one, this is the cheapest you'll see it. Get it.

Don't they have a 30 return policy? You could return it and then purchase it again. 14.50 is worth it if the store is close by.

pepboys (YMMV in person) has this on clearance for $18.80...

^ My local PepBoys had these at that price last fall. I bought both that were on the shelf.
