my 1999 mercedes s500 has many small scratches on the trunk.i tried using a mf optimum pad with m105 for a test spot but nothing happened. it was up to the point where the metal got very hot. i tried wet sanding but accidentaly removed the paint and had to touch it up. is there a cheap alternative to remove these scratches. by the way i have a pc7424xp.

What speed were you running your PC? Did you use the Polishing or Cutting pad?

Can you post pictures of the scratches? If they are too deep, you may not be able to remove them. Can you catch your finger nail in them?

no the scratches are not deep and i am using a cutting pad on speed 6 and i noticed there are light swirl marks under the lighting. i'll see if i could post a picture tomorrow.

hmm same issue I was having with my 2001 Acura, I first used the Megs MF kit with d300 compound its took alot of the surface marks out but there where still alot of swirls. Then I used the yellow cutting pad with Ultimate Compound and still nothing. I just the same MF DA kit on my newer Acura and it worked great. THis was the first paint correction to my 2001 Acura so I didnt really take it too seriously, I am going to try m105 and m205 next week and see what happens.

That looks like the start of clear coat failure. It happened to a Dodge Neon I worked on. The client took the car to the drive through car wash every week and after a while it took the paint off. It even took the paint off the hub caps. You aren't going to get those out. IMO they are below the clear/the clear failing. It sucks. Only thing to do is to get it re sprayed.
