I had to document this one.... & Late Introduction

Dont be modest Theo :)

My buddy Theo is super anal about his hobby. I have almost the same equipment and some knowledge in the field, but I dont have the patience that it requires, so my details are far and few per year. On the other hand I'm lucky to have a friend like Theo close by :)
Here are a couple of shots of my 928 that we displayed recently and yes its his handy work!

Welcome to AGO! I have to agree with the previous comment, judge too harsh on what? You did a fantastic job! Thanks for sharing! :)

Completely agree! Super job. I hope this guy at least bought you a few Molsons:props:

With hyper compound, less is more. I used too much the first few times and my pads clogged up and kind of skated and smeared. Great pictures!

UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I am still quite a hobbyist and have only maintained paint on me and hte wife's newer cars so I have yet to experience anything like that. However everytime I walk through the endless parking lot of cars here at work I see so many cars in horrid condition I want to put a business card or note on their windshield letting them know I can try to fix that for you :)

Excellent work period. I think you had the right idea about not trying for ultimate perfection, especially on 27 year old paint. However the turnaround of the condition of the old Porsche is fantastic and I bet the owner was pleased.

And one for the funs of HDR

Also after the paint job on that 928, Danny and myself tackled the leather seats together. A lot of work involved but the outcome was really worth it.

Briefly the process.

1. Extreme Treatment with Leatherique Rejuvenator Oil for at least 7 consecutive days, covered with plastic bags and multiple applications.

2. 2-3 stages of sanding the leather

3. Filling in the cracks and crevices with leather filler.

4. More sanding

5. 3 coats of paint by foam brush

6. 2 coats of paint sprayed by airbrush.

7. 1 coat of clear "matte" finishing coat.

et Voila...

thats excellent work what a great turn around. I believe those marks you saw is marring left by your claybar. I get those when i clay my black honda because it has extremely soft paint. I think if you were a bit less aggressive with the clay or you need to use more clay lube it might help lessen the marring.

Thank you for your kind comments.

For a brief moment while I was claying that fender I thought so too, and stopped to check. But these marks were only on that fender and most importantly to spots that I haven't clayed yet.

I clay very lightly with a high concentration mix of ONR and plenty of lube. I go easily through 2 spray bottles of lube to clay a car.

I agree with you that it could be from claying...
Just not mine;););)

I start to believe that they were sanding marks from a repair attempt or work. Not sure....

Theo that was an incredible transformation of that car. Like some others I thought it looked pretty good before you started from the first shots in your driveway. But after you removed the old wax and such it was really bad. And after your magic it looked incredible. And what you did with the leather seats shows incredible patience and craftsmanship. Many people would have wrote them off or re-covered them. You brought them back from the dead. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

That's very kind of you. Thank you very much.

I have to say that is my first full write up. I wanted to do one for a long time but I was kind of waiting for the right car. When that Black Porsche came my way, I knew, as the title says, that I had to document this one.

It's kind of hard work to do a write up. It takes time and organization. But when I see all these people that I share the same hobby and passion with, taking interest and praising my work and the results, I have to say its a very rewarding feeling.

One that I haven't felt for quite a bit, for many different reasons.

So thank you once again. I'm very glad to hear your opinion and comments.

Theo.

Theo... you are WAY too modest bro! But you're welcome on the advice. Not sure how I really helped though, in fact, I'll probably be taking tips from YOU! :)

Sorry being late to the party. This thread is already more than 3 pages long, so hopefully you still read this.

AMAZING work on that Porsche. I didn't realize how BAD a condition that paint was. It shows how much dedication you put on there. That paint is smoother and more reflective than a mirror! Can I go swimming in there? lol

I just posted a thread on detailing Tori, and I discovered the power of Vinegar. If you need to remove etch marks, that's the secret.

Again, congrats on a job well done. Outstanding work.

btw, how many total hours on that puppy?

Thanks Burton,

I think I spent approximately 14 hours of :buffing: and then 3 hours applying LSP, dressing the exterior and a quick clean up of the interior. Maybe it was even more than that. Overall I spent two days.

Soon, I'm going to be working on his new car. Another Black 944. :xyxthumbs:

Your comments make my day !!!

Το αυτοκίνητο φαίνεται φανταστική! (bing translation)

The car looks fantastic!

Wow - talk about a great first thread. That black 944 turnaround was awesome. You did a great job documenting the before and afters. I was drooling at how fantastic it looked in the afters! I have always wanted a black 944 of that vintage with the chrome wheels.

And I would love to see a full write up on the seat restoration. I don't think I've ever seen anything like that explained here on AG.

Dude - GREAT WORK!

the 944 came out amazing!!! I absolutely love his car and you made it look even better =)

Great job and welcome

Thank You very much. Documenting especially before and afters was probably my biggest worry. Next time I think I can do better. I took as many pictures as I could in the hopes of putting the story of this correction together at the end. It worked out pretty well judging from the response of everyone.

Unfortunately i did not take a lot of pictures of the seats. That was my first time attempting something like that. I read and watched quite a bit about the process, the techniques and the material and decided to give it a go.

After completing the work it didn't really feel that hard at all. If I ever do it again i think I can do even better. Honestly its not really that hard. I'll try to put something together in the future.

It feels really nice to be a part of this community and sharing our common hobby, passion and interest.

Thanks again to everyone. I'm really overwhelmed, and very much impressed by everyone's comments.

Theo
