The Griots and a cheap power cord, and the later year models have less power than the older ones. But it does have great warranty. It was documented straight from Griots that the motor is the same=same power. Haven't used one so I can't and won't try to sell the OP on it.
The PCxp is heavy duty, you can drop it and go on like nothing happened..

Agreed, well after you change the pad, haha.

Just curious, which machines have you used? These seem like forum opinions,not personal. Just trying to get the correct info out there. Thanks
 
I've never heard of the flex having any problems eating backing plates.

I started out with rotaries and got a Griots to try it out. After replacing the power cord 3 times, I got pissed and sold it online and bought a PCxp, which is going strong.

As for the Flex, I tried for few weeks and the heat was too much, once I saw the maaaany threads about backing plates melt down, I gave up.

So, now I own a 849 rotary and a PCxp. The only ones I've never tried are the Meguiars DA and the little 3" Griots.
 
I think I'm going to go with either the GG6 or the PCxp for now. Also forgot to ask everyone what products & pads do y'all use for removing swirls? So I can get this ordering going. Thanks for all the responses

Compound step:
5.5" OPTIMUM micro fiber cutting pads x 2 (maybe 3)
Meguiars D300, 32oz
Meguiars M105 (small bottle, to mix up with D300 on very hard paints)

Polishing step:
LC flat white pads x2
LC flat black foam pads x2
Meguiars M205, 32oz
Menzerna SF4500, 32oz (only if you own dark cars)

Sealant or wax step:
Your favorite wax, I like Finish Kare 1000p very much.
LC 4" CCS pads x2 (you shouldn't mix pads with diferent products, pads on this step must be dedicated)
Or you can apply wax by hand too.


Don't forget wheel cleaners, APC, brushes and leather care stuff.
 
Now, if you prefer all-in-one products, the list is a bit diferent:

AIO:
Optimum Poli-Seal, 32oz
LC white pads, x3
LC Green AIO pads, x3

On very soft paints, you can get away with Poli-Seal on a green pad... But on hard paints (mercedes, bmw) you might not be able to get much correction done with an AIO product..
 
I want ti simplify things. I only use one pad size for my pcxp and that's the 4in. Great correction capability due to the pad size. I only use optimum cutting mf pads and lc ht crimson pads for finishing. For heavy scratches, i have 2 4in surbuf pads stanby. Compounds m105 and d300. Polishing/finishing m205, men 106fa and sonax ntpc. For now, that's all i need. Detailing japanese, italian and german cars.

I've been using the Flex 3401 for over a year now and I haven't had any issues with overheating or backing plates.
 
I think I'm going to purchase that new polisher that just came out. Looks like the best bang for the buck for me right now. It's supposed to be like an upgraded GG6. Actually comes in a complete kit. Hardshell case, pads & correction compound...

it's competitively priced (looks to be better built and more ergonomic than it's rivals, time will tell) and it includes many extras to boot. can't wait to hear some more feedback, i look forward to purchasing one soon! :dblthumb2:
