Autowerx CeriGlass Guide

This has been a very informative post. This forum has given me the best information of any I have seen. I bought some Ceriglass and some of the Griots Garage 3" Glass Polishing Pads a few days ago. I have a bunch of scratches on my windshield I wanted to polish out.

I masked much of the car off and went to work on a 6"x6" area where the worst scratches were. It took me about 20 minutes working the area and it's almost perfect now in that spot. I didn't see any hazing with these GG pads and the Ceriglass. I am using a 3" air driven mini buffer. This stuff is amazing, I tried 3M glaze, 3M Compound and several cleaning waxes before without any improvement. It's a very slow process but at least I am making improvements in my technique and seeing some good results. I would like to thank Nicholas & Mike for making this information available to everyone.

I was wondering what artificial light gets the scratches to show up the best when working in the garage. It seems like flourescent doesn't do too good, I see a reflection in some of Nicholas' pictures of what looks to be a painter's halogen or something. I'm having a hard time evaluating my progress during polishing with the lights I am using?

First off: WELCOME TO AGO!!!

Isn't CeriGlass awesome!!?? I'm glad you found this information helpful in your glass polishing endeavors. It sounds like you are achieving similarly excellent results.

I use a variety of light sources to try to notice defects in glass. Ironically what seems to work best is an ordinary round light bulb. Next best is a halogen shop light. If you have a few standard ceiling lights try making the garage as dark as possible and only using a few lights. At the right angle you will be able to see the defects and judge your progress easily.

Another win for CeriGlass!

I tried to buff out some scratches I made on my windshield when I tried to clean it with a razor blade. Big mistake. Just clay it to be safe. I had griots glass polish with their orbital and glass polish pad. It didn't work. Now I have a Flex 3401. I will give Ceriglass a try. Thanks for the post.

Thanks Mike. Just to clarify....the ones in your article are the current offerings at AG....correct? I ask because the links you provide take you to the store page but the pics of the item are different.

Yes.

The ones in the pictures I took today are what are on the shelf. The difference that I can see from the ones in the pictures are the bottles are clear and the sprayer are black while the bottles in the pictures are opaque white and the sprayers are white.

I prefer the clear bottles and the black sprayers myself...

:)

That's awesome that AG carries those bottles now. Controlling the amount of water added to the window significantly reduces the chance of slinging product everywhere.

I bought some CarPro Pads and a small spray bottle today from AG. My results have been varied with the GG Pads. I am getting some light swirling scratches from the rotory with the GG pads and in some spots the glass looks very good and scratches are gone. I may not be using enough water. i will have to see when I get the CarPro Pads. I see the CarPro pads are different colors are they different?

I have not used the GG pads but from what I can tell they are very similar to the CarPro version. If you are still getting marring it could be due to a build up of abraded glass in the pad. Since you have a rotary a foam heavy cutting pad will also work well with CeriGlass. Be sure to post your results!

Subscribed, as a reminder come Spring time.

I've made the purchase from Jeff @ OldeTownAutoSpa as well;
Picked up the CarPro Pads + the CeriGlass, looking forward to trying it and putting my Flex 3401 to work.

Thank you for taking the time to write this up, I'm hoping to do a review/write up on it as well.

Just did all my glass using this method I have to say it does work but again it takes a long long time to polish out scratches but again it does work

I wonder what can I expect from the hand sponge that comes with the flyby 30 kit. On my good car, I only need to get rid of water marks or the windshield wiper print. On my beater I have wiper scratches.

Maybe I will only use the DA and Carpro pads on the wiper scratches and tackle the wiper trace with the sponge?

I wouldn't expect to remove any scratches by hand. Water spots, maybe yeah but your arm will fall off before you polish out scratches in glass by hand.

Read thru the thread and hope to remove the wiper marks on my CRX windshield that's been there since I bought it bone stock in 2010 with the info!!

Today's project... 4 hours on the rotary to get 90% correction for the windshield. Customer used some sort of aggressive water spot polish/system and left terrible haze all over the glass.

How would you compare the Griots Garage glass polishing pads to the CarPro ones??

I have not tried the Griots pads so can't comment on them. I really like and highly recommend the CarPro glass polishing discs. They finish out perfectly and can level insane defects in glass.

Just sharing my 50/50 practice on my sunroof. Stuff dries very fast.
