Mobile guys i have a question

I always use a canopy to avoid having the sun directly on the paint. I currently use a 10x10 but i am investing in a 12x12 or bigger very soon.

I run a shop, so I could be wrong. I don't think any of the mobile guys would buff or wax in full sun. Most guys use pop up canopies or work under a tree or in the customers garage.

If I'm not mistaken u can use poorboys polished and compounds in direct sunlight.

I purchased a 12x12 canopy from dicks sporting good for 160.00, probably one of my best investments. If the customer has garage where i can have enough room to work i usually pull the vehicle in there, but when worse comes to worse i pull out the canopy.

All depends on the products you use. When we have the space we use a canopy. But there are times when space doesn't allow for that option. So you just adjust your product and go from there.

Where there is a will, there is a way.

I actually found a 12x12 at Academy for $80 at regular price and im about to pick it up today. Made by EZ Up so we'll see how easy it is for one person to put up.

I'm in Memphis and we've been above 100 degrees the past few weeks. I can barely wash the cars.... As soon as I stop rinsing a panel, the water almost instantly dries.... And the interior plastics are hot to the touch, so cleaning them is VERY difficult as well. I'm about to buy a canopy, and hopefully that will help.

One thing I can add as I've had bad luck working under a tree. Little pieces of leaves and sticks constantly fall on your surface. It's horrible.

:iagree: There is a technique adjustment to using any product in direct sun. Now there are days where it is so hot and sunny that I will require a shady area to work on very dark colored paint (black). Every time I even think about setting up a canopy the wind starts blowing.:nomore: If the customer doesn't have a garage or carport for me to work under on these days, I ask them to bring it to my shop or reschedule to a cooler day.

If I'm doing a correction thats going to take 6+ hours at least I pretty much make it a requirement for the customer to drop their car off at my house or use their garage. I do this my the cars health and mine! Its been over 100 degrees every day lately and I'm not gonna do that to myself

I've seen some pretty good deals for canopy's at academy. I have my eye on a 10x20 that I want.

I'm very new to the forum (this is actually my first post) BUT BobbyG and I were at Poorboy's this past weekend, they use the Easy UPs. One person could certainly get it together on their own. Two people would be ideal, but it wouldn't be an issue for one.

Also, because we were mostly under the canopy, (and I have almost no experience with any other product) I can't say with certainty that their products are good for direct sun, but I used their pro-polish in direct sun on the tailgate and it worked just fine. We were working on an 08 black Ford Escape

:welcome: To Autogeek Online Tom! :props:

The Escape did come out great and because of the products we used it'll make maintaining the finish much easier....

I was very impressed with how small they fold making storage a breeze. These canopy's worked out very well and set up so easily it almost doesn't make sense not to have one.

A pretty productive weekend if I do say so! :dblthumb2:

Working in the sun can be a huge pain - if compounding, do it at dusk or dawn.... if one stepping it - work in smaller areas and the side of the vehicle that is shaded. Im not a fan of correcting outside, but it is doable. We have a correction on Wednesday in the elements and will start around 7 am. Fortunately we will have myself and Tyson cutting the first step, 2 gentleman following with the second step, third step Tyson and I again, and the 4th step cyclo'ed by a gentleman and finishing touches by all. This allows us to have the vehicle corrected (or at least the compounding) finished in a timely manner before the sun becomes too hard to work with. If I had to correct this vehicle alone, it would definitely be a requirement to have cover.

I try to move the car to take advantage of shade when available. Garages are great. Early starts to the day work also.

Sometimes I do have to work in full sunshine. In the summer I have a helper so we can make it work. I use a AIO so it goes on and comes off easily. I will buff a panel then my helper is right there to remove the residue. Nothing bakes on.
