I have traded my black 08 C6 for a new silver Grand Sport C6. I am picking it up tomorrow and plan the following steps for the first detail:

wash
clay (if needed, the car was made at the end of May, should not be too bad)
wash
menzerna 4500
wolfgang deep gloss 3.0

My question for the experts - do I need a step before the menz 4500 to cleanse the paint ? i wouldn't think so but I would like some opinions from folks more knowledgeable than me

thanks

Congrats on the new GS! Since the car is silver you may be able to get away with a paint cleaner if the paint isn't swirled out. The Menzerna would do a good job though.

Congrats on the new Corvette!

As to your question, being brand new you would hope it would be already in perfect condition but that's usually not the case.

I would recommend inspecting the paint really well after washing it both with your sense of touch and visually.

Silver metallic can be hard to see swirls in using direct sunlight because the reflection bouncing back at your eyes will blind you like a mirror.

Maybe pull it into the garage and turn the garage lights off and then use a Swirl Finder Light to inspect.

Either way, if you clay you really should at a minimum machine polish using a fine cut to an ultra fine cut polish. The SF 4500 is an Ultra Fine Cut Polish so do a Test Spot and then inspect the results. If it looks good duplicate the process to the rest of the car and then seal her up!

thanks Mike, if the 4500 does not have enough fine cut I will order some 4000.:xyxthumbs:

My dad has the same color Vette as yours. I washed it, Menzerna nano polish, then Wolfgang Sealant. Nothing else was needed. The paint was really good. So was my wife's brand new Cruze for that matter.

thanks for the info, I'm hoping the paint is near flawless since it is only ~6 weeks old. after detailing my black C6 for five years this color should be easy to maintain:buffing:

He brings it over every couple of weeks. It only has 3500 miles on it. It is crazy easy to maintain. Right now I have Poor Boys white diamond glaze followed by Poor boys ex-sealant. I like the shine of this combo. I will go blacklight followed up by Pete's 53 next time around. It has been my light colored test mule so far.
