GUM..On the OUTSIDE of the car...?

2009 Black Audi A4. NOW, I have not seen the car yet in person, so pics will come later...

Someone took big league chewing gum and chucked it on my clients car. I believe it sat outside our HOT Chicago sun for hours.

The client was able to wipe the hard stuff off, but as he describes, there are still marks or stains on the vehicle.

Has anyone had to deal with gum? Will this more then likely need to be wetsand/buffed?

I will be washing/claying first, hopefully the Flex or DA will be able to handle this.

Note: I know this is impossible because there are no pictures, I'm more looking for someone who has had to deal with gum on the EXTERIOR before.

I used clay to get gum of my girls car, I washed the area to loosen it a little, then just clayed. I did this in some sunlight too as it made the gum soft and it came off easier.

I'm just hoping since it's been in there for so long it's not leaving the same style of stains in the clear that bird droppings and bugs leave.

If you don't have Tarminator you can try a 50/50 IPA or stronger mix. Just do it out of the sun and whatever you decide to use, apply wax afterwards.

Try rubbing some vegetable oil on to it...

Not sure if it will work on hardened gum but it works for pliable gum.

If it absolutely won't budge. I'm talking seemingly impossible, try enamel reducer. Will definitely work! You may have to polish slightly afterwards, as it could possibly haze the paint a little.

I always keep enamel reducer in my shop for really really bad stuff!

Also I have 3M Adhesive remover, and have not been very happy with it.

:iagree: also use ScrapeRite Plastic Razor Blades, Scrape-Rite Razor Blades, Plastic blades to help pull up the goo. polish and reapply a paint sealant or wax when the gum is removed.

I took dried gum off a Lexus this past weekend with clay and then went over the area with 3m adhesive remover.
