DA on a respray panel?

Today I did the panel that looks resprayed, and no paint transferred to the pad, but to my untrained eye it looked a little more dull after doing my test spot. So I could only think to go less aggressive. softer pad for both polish and glaze and it looked a little better.

One sad note, I saw a red-ish spot that I thought was some type of debri and when I tried to remove it with my finger nail it got a little bigger. I guess I got down to either bondo or maybe it was a red door put on the car and then painted black. I dont know...

Okay partial results are in folks. Spent the majority of my day on this new hobby/obsession of mine.

foamed with 1Z W99. brushed crevises. Rinsed.
Washed with Pinnacle body shampoo
Clayed with Mothers
Washed again with Pinnacle
Dried.
Taped
Test spot square. Orange pad with XMT light swirl remover. (had to this in my Garport so no real lighting to check results. flash light kinda worked)
then white pad with XMT glaze. Since I couldn't easily move my car into the sun I decided to at least do the half of the hood and see how I did.

I wasn't sure what to expect since I couldn't tell any difference at all in the garport, But once I pulled it out into the sun I had the biggest smile ever. I'm not saying the results were perfect, but at least I'm heading in the right direction.

If I could only find a friend with a Big garage and the same passion for cars as me I'd be set.

Here's some pics. I didn't get around to the Respray section of the car. That will be next week and maybe some nice new wheels for your viewing pleasure as well.

Remember the starting point

Let me know what you think. And also what can I do differently next time
Good job, but needs a little refinement. Get some Megs Ultimate Compound and some 205.:buffing:

Ouch!

Yeah and some 3" pads with same backing plate will help me get some of those tighter areas and curved areas.

I noticed that on the 6 setting I can put about 10-15lbs of downward pressure and the pad will keep turning, but when I get to the polish/glaze stage and turn it down to 4 or 5 just the weight of the PCXP can stop the pad from turning. I almost feel like I have to lift up to keep it turning. How is anyone suppose to use the 1-3 settings if the weight of the machine is too much pressure for the pads?

This is such a bottomless pit of investing. I almost feel like if I dont do detailing on the side then I've really spent too much money on this project. Im half kidding, I love keeping my cars in tip top shape and I've really enjoyed the new found skills and help from AGO. Thanks for your continued support and feedback.

Is ultimate compound and 105 the same thing? I have seen different results while searching

No...105 is more aggressive than UC. To save me from rereading this thread. How long ago was the repair done?? If what you say is correct about the red paint being the color of a replacement door I would going back to the people that did the repair (don't remember if you know who did it) If the paint is flaking off that easy with your fingernail that door wasn't properly prepped before it got painted. IMO

I bought the car that way. I have no idea when it was done. Either way it was done poorly. I also saw some very tiny cracks or spipder web type lines in the clear coat in other areas so I think it is just a matter of keeping it up as much as possible until it eventually needs a new paint job.

Thanks for the clarification on m105 also.
